Multiple Feeds on one computer

Hello,

I was wondering if its possible to set up two different broadcasts on one computer with only one audio input. Right now I have my scanner broadcasting, but I want to add my plectron as well for reasons. Is it possible to do this with only one aduio input??

You can broadcast multiple scanners on the same service, but you'll have times where two, or more, audio signals will be heard at the same time. It makes for some difficult listening at times. We have two different scanners broadcasting on the same channel on our TeamSpeak server.

We also have a person who broadcasts on our TeamSpeak server and through ProScan, at the same time, with the same scanner.

As far as broadcasting multiple scanners over multiple services, on the same computer, you'd need a way to split the audio input so each service knew which audio signal it was getting.

What you might do is put one feed on the left channel and another on the right and broadcast in stereo - so ends users could pick one or both if they keep the balance in the middle.

No problem with multiple feeds on the same machine. Like most things with a computer, the answer is based entirely on the capability (speed) of your computer.

I bought a lot of 4 PCI audio cards on Ebay for about 15 dollars. A far more acceptable option then forcing listeners to adjust their left-right balance, or listening to two feeds at the same time.

The quality is definitely acceptable, and I plan on adding a third feed as soon I can decide on what additional scanner I want. I'm actually testing now running a second icecast server on the same machine too, and everything is very smooth. I do have a high speed cable connection.

I'm using a laptop to broadcast. How do you broadcast one off the left channel and one off the right??

As I mentioned, get a stereo adapter which you hook one up to the right input and one to the left, and plug that into your laptop. Then when you select your broadcast mode, pick stereo instead of mono.

How did you get your PORTS open to allow the connection?

Also, make sure the soundcard on your laptop has a line in jack, not just a mic in jack. Mic in jacks are generally monaural in nature.

What sort of ports are you talking about?

You would open the ports in your firewall.
So, if your feed connects on port 8000, you would need to forward port 8000 to your computer with the live feed.

Example:
Your radio computer as an IP address of 192.168.0.2
Your internet has an IP of say 10.10.10.10

You would connect to your router/firewall and forward port 8000 to IP 192.168.0.2
Then, if someone connects to 10.10.10.10:8000 it would go right to your radio pc.
You also need to make sure that your software firewall will let port 8000 pass.

As far as muliple cards go, I have a soundcard on my motherboard, and 2 PCI cards installed, for 3 feeds.
I know of a guy that picked up a 4port sound card, and installed 2 of them, so he can run 8 feeds....
