I'd suggest sanding down the edge of that board, or covering it with something. It's probably only a matter of time before you scrape your arm on it.

You already have the console in the car, why dont you buy the correct faceplates for your radios and use the console. The wood board looks very cheap. Also you already have one antenna hole in the car for the antenna on the roof, I would suggest getting rid of that mag mount on the back and putting in a hole mount.

Nice!

Is that GPS on the rear left of the roof?

From the look of the neighborhood, I'll bet you're the only one with a P71 Interceptor in the driveway:>}

I have ordered the face-plates I am just waiting for them to come in from Priority One Emergency (C) I just have the radios like that until them come in they said it will be 4 to 6 weeks. I no longer have the mag mount that photo was taken a few months ago.

Post a photo after the face plates show up, I think it'll end up giving you a much cleaner/professional looking install. Both VHF or is the VX-2200 a UHF model?

The GPS antenna was on the car when I got it, I don't use it.

Police Car?

Is this an actual on duty police car, or a former police car that you purchased? Since I don't see siren or lighting controls, I think it's that latter. I'd remove the old wooden desk and use a black console between the two seats where the radios would face upward. Just my opinion.

I'm not trying to be mean, but that old wood board taped onto the console looks pretty bad.

K2DMG's suggestion (buying a console top panel and proper radio 'faceplates') would look best. A free alternative would be to vertically mount your radios inside the console and just drill a few holes in the side of the console to match up with the radio's mounting holes. If they are too wide to fit inside the standard way, then you could attach the mounting brackets to the side of the console and mount them that way instead.

Your scanner will probably get pretty scratched up wedged against the wood like that. You can use a metal microphone holder to mount that handheld to your dashboard.

Either way, you have the perfect vehicle and pre-installed console for a nice radio setup there. :)

EDIT: (I type too slow). I see you are planning to use faceplates and mount the radios inside once you get the plates. Post a few pics of the updated install when you finish it. :)

Why do you want your car to look like a cop car ?

Why not just be a normal inconspicuous low visibility ham.

Not to rehijack this thread....but I hope you didn't screw those screws into the threaded part of the console. Knowing Murphy, those might end up being needed (without the larger screw size) for the new faceplates.

Well I just like the look... Actually got the car for a GREAT price and it already had 2 NMO mounts and it was already wired for 12V power to the console, so it made a great car for me. It's a great car lots of leg room and space in it.

This is a former police car (2008), I got it at an auction. It's a great car!

I had an '86 Crown Victoria (not police package) when I was a teenager. I mounted a Uniden PC122XL CB radio in the dashboard... Those were the days :)

I've had 11 cars since then, but that Crown Vic remains my favorite.

old police cars sell cheap at auction for a reason. most of the time they are not put up for auction until they are worn slap out. good for running around town, but don't trust them on long trips!

i am surprised they did not remove the whole console when it was decommissioned, around here they even take the spotlights off if they still work.
