The serial connection is for computer control of the scanner including trunking etc... If you are just doing an audio feed and have no use for computer control of your scanner all you need is a patch cord from iether the speaker jack or headphone jack on your scanner to an audio input on your PC. They also have stereo jack to USB or serial multipin connector available for input. For those of us using dialup since there is no DSL/HSI available in our county yet, I have been informed I will have to use teamspeak to broadcast since shoutcast requres a high speed feed. I hopefully will be able to pull this off since I am able to hear a lot most days and would love to share with the rest of the hobbyists the wealth of radio info that us backwoods racist redneck country boys have lol. Anyway more later.

I'm not running a router. Where do you open up the 8000 port for TCP and UDP? Also, what is DMZ and how to you get it??

Once again if someone cant get their shoutcast plugin to work, you are welcome to broadcast over my teamspeak server (68.62.126.174), i'm using a speex codec right now, however i can change it. I'm trying to get several people with scanners in the Southeastern US to broadcast on this server, so that people can listen to what they want more easily. If you plan on broadcasting over this server you can email me at webmaster@2ib.org and I will give you more information and make you channel admin. Teamspeak is designed to run with multiple programs, so it uses much less RAM and resources. And as far as I know you dont need an open port on a router to broadcast.

At home I had it on a DSL connection going through a Linksys router, and I had port 8000 open for my ip. That was months ago. I have the machine on a dedicated public ip (206.96.236.102) which is connected to a T1 circuit, from there it goes to a T3 then an OC3 and then out to the ATM cloud.

Don't worry about it since you don't have a router.

Opening port 8000 is done in the router, and setting the DMZ is in the router. Since you don't have one it doesn't apply to your situation. DMZ stands for DeMilitarized Zone and is a term used in Firewalls. Using the DMZ in a router means you're bypassing all protection that the firewall/router provides for that ip address specified.

During the last week of 2004 Bellsouth lost a 2600 pair cable which was providing service to 6 T1's and all telco communication in my office complex. This called all of the servers in my office to go off-line, including my online police scanner (NEXUS RADIO).

They (bellsouth) didn't have our service restored until late Friday night the 31st. By then I was out of the office and didn't return until Monday. On monday I did server maintenance and tweaked my scanner some. The online police scanner is back UP....

I added some talkgroups on the Harrison County TRS.

Gulfport FIRE Dispatch
Gulfport POLICE (patch 1 and 2)
Longbeach FIRE Dispatch
Pass Christian FIRE Dispatch

Also I corrected the audio problem on the APCO25 talkgroups. Before most of the transmissions sounded garbled or distorted. I was able to tweak the audio and now the digital talkgroups are sounding much better.

Coming soon....

REAL-TIME TALKGROUP INFORMATION!

I'm looking into the same software that scancapecod.net is using to display active talkgroups onto WINAMP's marquee. I've been checking his stuff out now for a week and am very impressed.

So very soon listeners will be able to know exactly who they're listening to on nexusradio, provided that you're using winamp to monitor it with.

Just an update, I now have the registered version of simplecast and icecast for my feed. So the url used in the client is different.

You can listen still by going to www.nexusradio.us

but the direct link for your clients are http://206.96.246.102:8000/live

With WINAMP you'll be able to see the agency's name and talkgroup information when ever they're active. (still working out the bugs as of today but soon)

Okay, more progress, and a new IP...

For those of you who are listening, or have been trying to listen and can't please be advised that the IP ADDRESS which once was used "206.96.246.102" is no longer valid. This is why it's important not to use the bookmark in your player, because as time goes by the address may eventually change.

Please use http://www.nexusradio.us/ to get the correct streaming link.

I'M NOW BROADCASTING TEXT ID INFORMATION!!!

Finally got the bugs worked out, streaming with ICECAST and SIMPCAST with the monitor program made by Gordon. If you use WINAMP to listen you'll now be able to see the ID of WHO you're listening to as it comes across your speakers. Also more improvements are that with shoutcast the delay between actual transmission and rebroadcasted on the net was like 20-30 seconds. That time is now cut down to 5 or 7 seconds after the actual transmission takes place.

So now,

* TEXT ID's in WINAMP for each signal heard
* Shorter re-broadcast time delays.

The new and current URL is: http://209.16.69.4:8000/live

But I strongly suggest that you use the link on www.nexusradio.us

Milf, can you update the link in the DB again heh sorry.
