Just in case things where not bad enough with the snow, Englewood Fire working a natural gas fire. Missed the location, but units on scene reporting Gas meter is on fire. As well as some grass in the front yard..Might be one of those nights?

RP says fire was started by lightning..

There was some pretty intense lightning in Centennial, gotta love Thundersnow! For any weather buffs or storm chasers there was 50 DBZ in the core of the storm as is passed over I-25!

Yeah, I drove home in that. Crazy! I've never seen lightning in a snowstorm before.

What is 50 DBZ?

dbz is basically a way to measure intensity in a storm. If you've ever looked at doppler radar before you'll know that the yellow and red areas surrounded by blues and greens are the strongest parts of the storm. Our snow/lightning event last night had those nice bright red and dark yellow colors in it, almost looking like a spring storm. The bright red is rated at 50dbz which seems quite strong for a Feb snow storm.

Gotcha. Now that I've got it in context, I know exactly what you mean. I've only lived out here for four years and I'm stilll trying to suss out the weather.

I couldn't believe that on my drive home from Englewood to Greeley I started out with snow (and lightning!), about ten miles later it turned into rain, then turned into small frozen rain, then back into snow, then everything abruptly stopped north of Northglenn.

Fun!
