Living in Chattanooga, TN, we often listen to the Atlanta Regional Center (132.05000 mHz). We here recurrent references to pilots being given direction to do things at the "Erlin Intersection". We think that's the name...we're sure about the "intersection" word but the other word may be Erwin, Irwin, etc.

Any thoughts on where that point is located? We've search Google, et.al, but found no references to that point. Basically, the Center's instructions usually deal with altitude and speed changes occuring as the flight reaches that point.

Thank you.

You can search for FIXES (intersections) at www.airnav.com as well as airports and navaids. Intersections are points in space where airways intersect.

Arrival into ATL I believe. Also check out www.flightaware.com. If you look at ATL, it will give you a link to the procedures and you can see the routes for the various STARs (Standard Terminal Arrival Routes).

You will also find the frequency prior to 132.05 on that Arrival for ATL is 133.175. Before this is Memphis Center on 124.125/118.875(FROM THE NORTH-NORTHWEST) and 120.025/127.375(FROM THE WEST).

what your hearing is ATC giving crossing restrictions for an arrival gate. That fix is a "gate" on a STAR. aircraft on different transitions will usually be given a clearance to cross that gate at the same speed and altitude for spacing and sequencing into a major airport. the most common restrictions are something around 10,000 feet and 250 knots on the speed.
