Have been seeing some NCSHP designators or callsigns and just wondering if anyone could help me out with the usage.

V as in SHP-V175P and SHP-V170M and SHP-V155P (I think these are VIPER techs, but I'd like confirmation if possible)
NOC as in SHP-NOC5
TSU as in SHP-TSUNOC1 and SHP-TSUNOC2

V units are our VIPER techs.

As stated the VIPER NOC is the VIPER network operations center housed on Garner Rd. TSU is the technical services unit. VIPER techs/NOC personnel are a division of TSU

Thank you, BTW you wouldn't happen to know the difference between a RID alias of P and P9, I assume P is portable and M is mobile, but every so often I see P9 (ie C312P9)?

you’re correct on the P and M designations but I’m not sure about the number after the P. Unless they’re using it as a version number for programming so they can determine which radios have been updated. They’re still working on programming some of the radios as some of them still don’t have the newer state event channels(echo and up).

How do you get the alias to show up? I thought that was only possible in a com center or you're given a list of who has what RID.

what really is interesting is why the Viper Techs are not using encryption.

The Microwave Techs are.

I haven't heard them in the clear, all traffic I've see/heard has been on the Microwave Tech TGs except when they responded out west for hurricane response.
