Presume this is the right thread.
I am near Te Pahu in the North Island of New Zealand.
Tonight at 0830Z I am hearing an NDB on 308 kHz with identifier HR.
I can't find it on the NZ or Australia lists of NDBs.
Can't find it anywhere on google.
Anyone out there can help?

Are you sure it's not Hokitika HK on 310? Comes in pretty well as it's right on the west coast of the South Island and has a good sea path up this way....good this afternoon at 1800pm.

Thanks for the tip. I'm not a ham so rely on a visual chart for morse code. Had an eye/brain malfunction and got my dits and dahs reversed!!! Another sign of advanced age I guess. Cheers

Quite a busy little group of frequencies around 310 - I had a listen around 2200 local time and found 305 kHz Griffith, 308 MacKay, 311 Normanton all in Australia, 314 Miranda and 310 Hokitka of course. Normanton is right up on the Gulf of Carpentaria, 2581 miles/4154 km so that's quite a good catch. Had to do some serious tweaking to dig him out of the mud though! JRC NRD-515 from a delta loop.

I can hear Norfolk and Lord Howe from here but nothing on the Oz mainland.
I have to get my W6LVP Loop going again in a more permanent configuration.
What antenna do you use for LW?
Cheers,
Rick

Hi Rick - it's a delta loop the top 'point' is about 4 metres up above my radio room then one leg down to the fence which is 1.8m high, the other leg is about 11m and then they are joined by a wire along the top of the fence which is about 13m long. There's a 4:1 unun at the top with RG58 down to a multicoupler. It's only been up a few weeks but it well outperforms the 18m OCFD it replaced. Much quieter and better LF reception. Try for Port McQuarie PMQ on 395kHz - he has 400Hz modulation which is quite difficult to dig out of the noise - I listen in SSB mode. PMQ sounds like - dit dah dah dit - dah dah - dah dah dit dah.
