I only need fire/ems. I need to be able to listen to dispatch and then follow fire calls as command takes over, battalion, and talk groups pertaining to the call. If I have to find TG numerically rather than phonetically, is one better than the other?

Thanks for everyone's help.
The TG number can have an alias (text). You can program it to any value you would like. However, I recommend using the values in TVEngr post above.

IMO the programming you need is trivial. I could do it for you in a few minutes if you like. This would get you going quickly and give you working examples, this would help when you tweak it later on.

Agreed, the SDS does better than the 436 did at simulcast but still misses a lot. Also the battery life even on the big butt pack wasn't that great. The g5 has better sensitivity too and the nice stealth/portability aspect of being able to fit easily into an inner suit pocket. Also it's loud, so you can still hear it around traffic noise if you crank the volume a bit.
Sitting side by side with a department issued p25 radio on the same system my SDS100 misses zero traffic.

Purchased the SDS100, have it programmed. Thanks all. May pick up a g5 just to have for Fire.
