Good afternoon from Columbus, Ohio. I need some help please. For the last 10 years or so, i have owned a Uniden - BCD436HP handheld scanner. Last fall, it was damaged beyond beyond repair. Well i just purchased one and received it today. It has been about 2 years since i programed my last one with the Sentinel software,. Here is my problem, i was under the impression i could "download" the same favorites etc.. from what is in the Sentinel program from when i last updated my older (same) scanner. I just did that, i can see all the favorites just fine, but when i select them to scan, i don't received (hear) anything. I know the radio works because the weather and stuff has came through. I am not sure what i am doing wrong?

Please help

Thank you!

Make sure you have the favorites you want to hear selected, and the service types selected
Thank you for the reply! I checked all of that. I simply plugged the USB cable into scanner and downloaded the favorites to the radio like i had always done before. Same same model of radio i had for about 10 years.. im stumped. Do you know the radio technical operation well? I dont have to somehow load a database or data ontop of all the favorites, do you know? The area i am in is a trunked digital system.

Thank you again

Export your sentinel programming, zip it, and post it here.

As long as sentinel had everything that was in the last scanner, a write to scanner should have put everything on the new scanner.

Also, check the location of what you are wanting to listen to, make sure it's not encrypted or that what you had programmed in the older scanner is still current. It's possible that the agencies changed radio systems.

Remember that when the scanner is first shipped, the only active service types are dispatch (Fire Dispatch, Law Dispatch, EMS Dispatch, and Multi-Dispatch) plus Custom 1.

Be sure to also enable the Tac & Talk service types for those as well (example Fire Tac, Law Talk, etc).

Also, the database in the scanner, when shipped, is going to be several years out of date. If you have not already, update the database in Sentinel so that the more current data is sent to the scanner when you use Sentinel to load your Favorites to the new scanner.

If you're tying to track Columbus City Simul using a 436HP you may be facing simulcast distortion if you're within range of two or more towers below

Feel free to try the multipath mitigation methods in the wiki linked below but ultimately you'd be much better off with a Uniden SDS100 (or 200) to track simulcast systems

Thank you. Is this something new? I have had the same scanner for 10 years (in the Columbus area). I just bought the exact same thing because the other was damaged beyond repair right after the first of the year. I copied my favorites over on the new one, from the saved file in Sentinel following the steps i have used in the past.

As was mentioned in post #4, post up a zipped file of your programming and maybe we can figure out what's going on. Without that, it's really hard to see or help you.

Can you please let me know how where to find the actual database to zip? When i look into the Uniden folder, all i see is program files. I don't actual see any database or stored preferences (favorite files names) please see the attached screenshot or do i just zip the entire Sentinel file as show in the attached screenshot
