I just received a Yaesu VR-5000 receiver I have been picking up a lot of Amature radio operators in Italy, Florida and all over the world. I was wondering if anyone could give me a list of HF frequencies that are very busy so I can see how good my reception is tonight, I am in Fort Erie Ontario Canada and I have a Discone Antenna 35 feet up in the air and am looking for Hf Aircraft frequencies and Marine/Ship frequencies that are very busy if there are any so I can see if I can pick them up. Any help would be appreciated.

For signal comparison, try CHU, the Canadian time signal station near Ottawa
3330.0 transmitter power 3 kW
7335.0 transmitter power 10 kW

Just starting to get the hang of it, the frequencies above are comming in nice and clear from 10:00 pm till 3:00 am, they are starting to fade out now so I'll call it a night. I Will program more HF aircraft and most HF marine frequencies into the receiver in the morning and see how it picks them up. Just learning how to work with this receiver, I'm not used to the VR-5000 It's a big difference from all my other scanner radios, they never received frequencies below 30.00 Mhz so I'll go slow and take my time and enjoy. Also tried a long wire inside the house but it pick up more noise than the Discone so I think I'll stick to the Discone Antenna.

Thanks for the frequencies I'll try them tomorow with the others.

A few more for you

17.946 13.306 13.354 8.891 8.864 8.831 2.899 2.872 2.962 5.520 6.577 6.586 6.628 8.906 8.918 6.640 11.342 8.933 8.861 11.300 5.565 8.894 11.291 The last five are from AFI-1, North Africa. Listen to 11.300 late in the afternoon...the equipment in that air route area is so old that you can hear ATC passing the aircraft over to each new station. It's interesting as hell.

5.717 11.232 CanForce

A good book to invest in, if you like listening to aircraft chatter, is the World Aircraft book from Universal Radio. Check it out www.rffun.com

Have fun
