Need help to learn Scanner Programming

Hello,

I recently joined volunteer fire department and i live in Massachusetts in Hampshire county and i want to listen to Northampton Dispatch. Could someone tell if it is analog or digital and i read about re trunking in the area. Do radio shack handheld scanners still work for the area i live in? If so what do you suggest i buy.

My suggestion is to join Scan New England. Radio Reference is a great resource, but you'll get more detail as Scan-NE.

Northampton FD is analog 154.220 PL 82.5. Any analog scanner will receive this frequency. The database here as well as Scan New England, as Gary pointed out, are great resources.
