Need help with BCD996XT

I recently bought a 996XT and am having a heck of a time figuring it out. I was making good progress until I apparently created a problem. I have gotten the scanner into a Searching mode and cannot figure out how to stop it. Can anyone tell me how to stop the scanner from Searching? Thanks -

Indeed, that's one place to go. The other place is an article that links in pretty much most everything you would need to know - soup to nuts. It starts with links for terminology (like trunking) and goes onto making the connection between the PC and scanner, links for software and of course the DMA FAQ, which addresses topics the othewise excellent Easier to Read manual doesn't (or at least in as great detail).

Thanks to all three of you for responding to my request. I was able stop the Search process. I was aware of the "Easier to Read Manual" and the several other links dealing with this and other scanners of this type. However, I have found them to be some lacking in information. Maybe you could help me with using the FreeSCAN software. I am using the USB cable but can't get the scanner to take the program. Does the scanner have to be put into a "Program" mode in order to accept it? Can you offer any trouble shooting ideas?
