Can someone tell me how to edit the small description below the dept.? I'm very new and in over my head at this level of scanner and I'm having trouble hearing what I'd like to hear. I have Sentinel and ARC536 on my computer but I'm having a hard time. Even when I punched in a zip code in Los Angeles, out of curiosity, I didn't hear a single thing. I have my service types settings like I want them.

I'm also trying to figure out, when I hold a channel, when I turn the knob I see all these different channels. How can I pick those up or are they being scanned already? I just know I could be hearing more than I am.

Use either of these & create a favorites list. No way to edit site names (or any name at that) while scanning full database (zip code scanning). Once you've created the FL in Sentinel you'll then need to go to Edit > Edit Favorites List. Select the Favorites List and click OK. Use tree view to expand system name & locate and click site here. Click Options tab and use Site Name text box to rename the site. Write change to scanner. Welcome to the RR forums

Or in Arc 536, use tree view to highlight system and site then edit site name where shown. Write change to scanner

Keep in mind that sites only carry traffic from agencies in the area & affiliated to the site. In other words you're not going to hear every talkgroup on a statewide system from a single site. You'll also want to ensure the applicable service types are turned on for the talkgroups carried on your local site, reference "tag" column in the RRDB, they're not all enabled by default

Thank you for the welcome, Whiskey. I misstated. What I meant to ask was, how do I edit was shows up there. For example, I don't want to see Sulphur Springs at all, but a different site altogether. How do I change that? And when do I use Sentinel and when do I use ARC536?

You didn't really expect to hear Los Angeles scanner traffic in Benton, Arkansas did you?
Yeah, I guess I did! I thought punching in the zip code would allow me to receive that area. But I know better, now.

So in other words you want to program a different site altogether? With Sentinel you have no choice but to append all sites & departments and then have to go through and remove what you don't need. Arc 536 (and Proscan at that) allows you to choose which sites you'd like to add via the RR web import service

I'm glad you said something because I have been using a scanner app on my phone, and I thought this scanner could pick up distant locations like the app did and I was getting frustrated, but it makes better sense, now. Thank you. But, Little Rock PD is only 20 miles away and I never hear them. Why is that?

Are they conventional or trunked? What antenna are you using and have you ever updated the full db in the scanner?

Dadgummit.......I just saw that they're encrypted. Just about all the law enforcement agencies around here are encrypted, now. I'm using a Remtronix 820S and I also have an 842S and the stock ant.
