how do i program information from my laptop to my 396 scanner? i have my bc396 radio hooked up to my dell laptop. do i have to have my radio set a certain way? what do i click on my computer? i have the info on my screen i want to relay it to my radio.any help will be appreciated.THANKS .BOB in maryland

There are so many questions to ask, I hardly know where to begin. Have you confirmed that it's using an available port? You can find that in Device Manager, and this article (note:all links are in blue) describes how to get there. Did you set up the 396's transfer speed as documented in many places, including the Easier to Read manual?

You can use FreeScan (it's freeware) to work with your 396. The user manual for the software can be found here. There is a link called 'Making the Connection' in the FreeScan manual that describes how to set the transfer speed. 73 Mike

any progress?
first, you need a program for a 396, which is the freescan link. download that into the comp yet?

then the actual hookup, using I presume a USB cable. some of them need drivers.
