just bought a grecom PSR-282 are these any good to receive anything as am not having much luck will they also receive police messages can any one help please ty new user

It is my understanding that the British Police Forces (and some Fire Brigades) use TETRA, and there is currently NO scanner available that will receive TETRA.

Comint is correct, but things are actually worse than that. All UK police forces, together with all ambulance services and fire & rescue services have now migrated to TETRA and so cannot be received on a scanner.

Having said that, fire service "fireground" communications are on UHF and so can be received. Coastguard communications, Mountain Rescue, marine and airband are also "in the clear", as are lots of other agencies. There are still lots of things to listen to on your PSR-282.
