Need some advice on SDR setup

Hi all, I actually had my RTL-SDR set up over a year ago, but had a PC hack/crash and lost all of my programs, settings, etc. Anyway, I'm trying to get the SDR unit set up again but I'm running into issues, and I can't remember exactly how I set it up last time. To be brief, I've downloaded HDSDR and SDR++ but can't get either of them to work. Also, the required plug-ins aren't loading for me either. SO, I'm guessing there's not yet an all-inclusive software that already has everything required in it. Can someone give me a simplified, step by step setup so I can get this unit working? My hardware is the RTL-SDR V4 from Amazon, connected to a Tram Discone antenna. Back when it was working before, it worked great -- I just want to get back to that. ANY help/advice appreciated. Thanks....

Be sure to to let the RR Forums community know what state your PC is in currently. Also which OS is it that you are running? That is usually a good starting point because SDR++ can work in Windows, Linux, Mac, and Android. I am guessing you are running in Windows because HDSDR is a Windows only app, but it can run in Linux under Wine with a TCP connection to the RTL-SDR.

I hope you have wiped out your drive and reinstalled your OS. That's a sure way to get rid of any bad hacks unless your UEFI bios is infected. A clean install will surely run your SDR software like before when it was pristine.

Yes, I did have to do a complete brand new reinstall of everything after that incident. It's running Windows 10, but I have been unable to locate a good, usable download of that "EXTIO-DLL" plug-in -- none of 'em seem to work.

Don’t have a v4 so I don’t know but does it run as is or does it need zadig driver?
No, it doesn’t need that driver — all it needs is that extio-DLL to get it to run correctly; I just can’t find a version of that, that will load.

Well, I found and loaded the EXTIO-DLL plug-in but now I get an error message that "No compatible RTL-SDR device found!". The RTL-SDR V4 unit * is * connected to the PC so I'm not sure what's going on here.....

Anyway, everyone, I got the SDR Sharp app to work (although I * much * prefer the HDSDR app's interface, but I couldn't get that to work). So, at least I am operational for now. Thanks all.....
