Yeah, another noob here :) I have a BCD396 and am really enjoying it. I have been using the preset frequencies etc in the Seattle area and pick up alot of stuff.
My question is ....if you look at this page http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&sid=604 you see all thos frequencies at the beginning and some are highlighted in red. Then below you see the Trunk channels 5808, 6448 etc.....
Do you need to program those freqs at the top in somewhere to get all the groups down below? I have USAD and using that I looked at the Seattle MOT database and I have a bunch of Talk groups already, but when I look at the trunk options, I only see 14 diff frequencies ? Some of the 14 are the ones in red at the top there but some are just the ones in black. Should I enter more frequencies in the trunk options area and add to the 14?
I think I'm close to understanding but not close enough :)

The frequencies listed in red are control channels. There are 14 sites listed for this system, each site has it's own freqs. The example you gave of 5808 and 6448 are talk groups. I don't have a 396 , but from what I understand each of the sites would have to be set up as a seperate system. The freqs in black are voice channels and your scanner does not need them. It gets the voice channel from the control channel. You might want to see the WIKI here for a better understanding of trunking and how it works.

For more detailed information on this system, you might want to post in the Washington Forum, to get someone who knows this system.
