Is the Arkansas Highway Patrol and the Arkansas State Police the same agency ? Or they different agencies. Do they Patrol the same State and Interstate Highways ?

Just wondering and thanks.

Short answer: No.

Arkansas State Police: Patrol the state highways, focusing on regular (4-wheel cars and trucks) traffic and accidents involving such

Arkansas Highway Police: A division of the AHTD, patroling the AR highways for commercial (typically "big truck") traffic

Yes, they patrol the same highways but focusing on different aspects. This does NOT mean that they can't stop the other (they sometimes do).

After a quick Google-search:

From the official website...

Arkansas State Police: Highway Patrol Division

...it seems that the Arkansas Highway Patrol is a division of the ASP, and that other divisions of the ASP have duties other than patrolling the highways.

And, Wikipedia confirms the above post as well. The following are separate and different entities:

Hope this helps,

Just to clarify (so no one sees this and gets confused), the Arkansas Highway Police is NOT the same as the Highway Patrol Division of the ASP. The names sometimes get confused, however.

Correct. The ASP performs the Highway Patrol functions, the same as LSP in LA, ASP in AL etc... AHP is part of the AR Department of Highways and Transportation, and performs as the LE branch of that agency.

True. If the reader clicks on the Wiki links, the articles also make it clear that they are separate, different, and unrelated entities, not to be confused with each other.

For clarity, the two names the OP mentioned are both in the same agency. One is the parent of the other.

No, they are completely separate. One is not the parent of the other. Both separate, under different agency umbrellas (ASP and AHTD).

The OP asked about the AH Patrol, which is a division of the AS Police.

If the OP had asked about the AH Police, then you would be correct.

Oh wow, it must be past my bedtime...I've read that 5 times and seen Police instead of Patrol every time until now. Wow...I need sleep...

The Highway Patrol Division of the Arkansas State Police... No separation there. They are still the ASP. Same with the Crimes Against Children Division, still ASP. AHP is an division of the HaTD. To compare, most states just call it the Enforcement or Law Enforcement Division of their DOT. Then there is SC,.. They call thier's the Transportation Police. In MS, you can get confused, because there is MDOT-E, and the Motor Carrier Enforcement Division of MHP. MDOT-E handles mostly 18 wheelers etc... MCE from what I remember is buses, and that like.
