I'm going to try the 1.10 firmware, at least just for giggles. I can always switch back.

REGARDLESS, the RR wiki doesn't reflect the suggested settings correctly on the links provided in my post above (unless I'm misunderstanding, which is possible). How does one go about letting the powers that be know this should be updated to keep RR relevant?

The RR Wiki is a user-supported resource. Most Wiki articles are editable by the users. If you think something needs changed, you are free to change it. Or, tell one of the Wiki admins...like me.

Ahhh.... I had tried but hadn't realized that I have to login to the wiki separate from the forums. Now that I logged in (again for the first time), I see the edit options. I'll update as I see fit! :)

Thanks.

Thanks for the link. I was about to update and I realized my new scanner was already on this firmware.

Important to check "Scanner Settings" !

I tried installing this update. BC_VUP3 downloaded and installed flawlessly, but would not not work on either a wired or wireless connection: Internet access failed. The remote name could not be resolved: 'ftp.uniden.com'
From what I've gathered here, I'm not missing anything. I'd like to see a fix with the updater more than anything, should the LSM issue get resolved. For those of us who monitor analog stuff that runs carrier squelch, along with digital systems, open squelch is not an acceptable answer. That renders 'scanning' useless.

K4NNW:

Can't help you on the update - seems like the last time I tried it, the updater did the download for me.... Somebody else here should have an idea.

In my case, the scanner was plugged into the PC, and the PC had unfettered network access, including the Web. The notebook used was running a WiFi link, but I've found that if that works, any wired link (there's an RJ45 here someplace that plugs into the router) will work, too. However, you need the web access. You also need a bidirectional parallel to serial converter, or a serial port. (There's a new Uniden USB cable available.)

About the open squelch: IMHO, most commercial sites seem to be using some kind of tone squelch, which doesn't seem to bother digital/trunking work. If you're monitoring RF-only frequencies, though, you may be out of luck. Although, I may have missed something. IMHO, Uniden told their people to stuff every feature they could think of into the thing, and may not be sure themselves about what these toys can do.

Regards,

Its NOT like the previous updates. After you download the BCVUP look into your program files for the bcvup file open it from there while connected to the Internet. . Then it will connect you to the uniden site to download the update it will ask you which update you want 396/996.. go back and re-read the instructions step by step it took me 4-5 times to figure it out

Hello,
I'm new to all of this. I've upgraded to premium subscriber. I paid to have one county programmed into my scanner before they sent it. Do I have to manually put in all those numbers or is there a program that will do it for me.? I know it's a dumb question for you, but I need to know.

When you update your firmware you wont lose any programming that is already in your scanner...

For next question..if you download FREESCAN you can import trunked systems and conventional frequencies directly into your scanner via FREESCAN

The one thing I hated is when you had to enter the checksum to get the update to work! Remember that mess? I hope they never do that again.
The last few updates were pretty easy, thats what an old man likes, easy!
