Tecnisonics latest and greatest radio can have up to 6x APX8000 chassis in it. I don't even want to think what it would be worth, kitted out with a loaded flashes.
When we transitioned to TDMA, the air unit HOWLED at how much the radios were and thus we kept them on FDMA patches until that could be sorted out. Anything aircraft is insane expensive.

I didn't need another radio, really. But I want it, so I just bought this lovely refurbished and certified TFM-550 and I don't own an airplane. Maybe I'll dash mount this thing in my jeep and put little stubby wings on it. I can make airplane noises with my lips when I drive around.

This is some Ginger Billy level stuff there!

What low band antenna did CHP have connected to their helos? I dont remember Ponch throwing a wire out of the window when he did that ride-along!

This is the standard aircraft/helicopter VHF lo antenna/tuner used. I bought one cheap but it had problems and returned it. I'll probably get another now that I have two compatible radios. These were originally made by Foxtronics and I think the company name changed.

That goes beyond Luxury and into Royalty. Dump the Rolex for Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime.
It does, but it's probably easier to select a radio already on the TG/channel you need, rather than try and find the right zone/TG/channel on a single radio.

If I can find the mid band Saber I'll offer it FS. Much of this high end stuff has little to do with how fat your wallet is, its being connected to good people who have good stuff and good prices. Looking at the title of this thread reminded me I have to make up a fire mission plan for my Harris radios since P25 is now a thing for wildland firefighters.

Cool. Working with AeroConnect (formerly Cobham, formerly Wulfsberg) RT-7000 now, with APX8000 modules. Great radios for a helicopter as well.....but now they want OTAR demonstrated (glad I am not a sales person). I only have to program the actual APX8000XE that talks to the RT-7000 APX8000 module.
When it comes to helicopters and aircraft for firefighting, public safety, and government missions, it is top dollar (tax payers money) being spent......I need to win the lottery.

This just arrived in the mail today refurbished and certified airworthy. Makes me want to buy an airplane and fly for the USFS and dump water on forest fires. Or we could stick it Lindsay's aerio plane and pee out the window.

Just made a discovery, the radio above will criss-cross band repeat any VHF/UHF frequency with a couple of button pushes, something the subject of this thread cannot do because its a single band radio.

You want to buy a plane and get into the firefighting business? First thing you need to know is that just dumping water is inefficient. You want to be dumping retardant. Water evaporates quickly as compared to retardant, which remains effective after it dries. Water is used, mostly with helicopters, which can drop water with greater accuracy to knock down flare ups and during the mop up process. Dropping water from a plane causes a lot of evaporation loss due to airspeed. Although I now realize you are just pulling our legs. In the big picture we now have fewer federal retardant aircraft than we did 25 years ago, except in California where the state has really built up their complement of larger capacity aircraft, with more to come.

Retardant = your 10W radio ;) Do you have the 1W switch on it as well?

Tell us what amplifier you will connect to that QRP radio :p

It does 1 or 10w. I have a Mirage B1016 10w in 160w out but its fairly narrow band around 2m. I have similar amps for UHF and 50 to 100w amps for 10m through 6. But when I get my water dropping helicopter this radio will have plenty of range barefoot. :)

I did receive about 8hr of helicopter flight instruction maybe 30yrs ago, does that count?

Your gonna need that UH-60 with its tripple stability control, and hang on to something in the tornados.
