No they can't. They would need to show on you're phone app that you were texting at the time.
Be careful! Some states mention "texting" but also include other language that severely lessens any contact with the phone. Georgia law won't let you touch your phone while driving or even while stopped at a traffic light. Cities have been known to post "spotters" at intersections to locate violators.

Exactly, I would think the same applies for a scanner, so as long as listening to a scanner in a vehicle is legal in your state/country. If you have a scanner mounted in your dash or sitting in a cupholder, there's really no difference between it and the am/fm radio your manufacturer installed from the factory as long as you aren't touching or looking at it, aka distracting you. I would think the LEO would have to SEE you fumbling around with it while driving and not just it's presence making you guilty.

That said, it's crazy how many people I see driving around wearing earbuds or with a hoodie on over their head blocking their peripheral vision. While we're down this rabbit hole, I have to say the dumbest law I've heard of is no driving with bare feet. So would they rather me try to drive with my size 13 wide work boots on that constantly get caught under the pedals? 😆 I always just change my shoes

:ROFLMAO: If you think that's bad, I wear size 16 and occasionally I have to wear a special surgical shoe when my foot gets swollen from a gout attack. OMG talk about clumsy. I have to be VERY careful and drive a little slow. The shoe is so wide it can span the gas and brake pedal at the same time! :cautious:

I remember back in the old days there were places in cars to install radios, then detaching head radios were invented (for Hams) because the new cars didn't leave enough space to install a radio. But what about us scanner guys? The only remote head scanner I could find was the Whistler TRX-2, but it has a stratospheric price tag. Since I only spend on average no more than 7 hours a week in my car, I cannot justify it.

You can get the older models (1095/1098) for about $300 (sometimes $250) if you are patient.

I'll tell you something I've done with a detachable face ham radio. Covered up the ashtrays with the head. Took a coffee cup from the house and slid the handle over the parking brake and used the coffee cup as a cup holder. Worked well.

I can't remember when I've seen an ashtray in a vehicle!

I just re-read what I posted.
I meant to say I covered up the two cup holders with the radio head, and then used a coffee cup from the house as a cup holder.
It must of been early when I did that post.
