Douglasville PD switch to Cobb

Do you think this is permanent? Douglas County/City is in the process of building a law enforcement facility, which I thought was going to centralize 911 radio communications for the city & county...Is that not going to happen now?

Don't know. D'ville has been on 800 for a while while the County is on VHF. Depending on what $$ rate they get from Cobb County, it may be cheaper in the long run for them to run off of their system instead of building their own.

I could have sworn I heard a Douglasville engine call up on Cobb FD Dispatch the other day. Don't know if that is a sign of things to come or if they just have Cobb in their radios for interoperability purposes.

not an expert...

So, if I wanted to listen to D'ville pd now,(online) which Cobb feed would I choose? I am an expert listener-not a scanner expert...but I have a feeling I am going to be learning some new things : )

At this point none of them.

I have the cities feed though, I suppose I could add them to it. Would kinda like to have all the talkgroups identified though.

I believe it's called to Vocoder which will make the system sound better, not only to the users but to us listeners!

The Vocoder is what encodes the analog wave from a person's voice to digital bits. All P25 systems have one. So perhaps they are going to implement an update to the Vocoder? If I had to guess, that might improve the quality of the audio, however, I don't think it would improve upon issues with multipath distortion, we can hope though.

Gordon gave me a bit of a crash course on this after I asked my question...and I understand that it may not simple to add - and adding it may just confuse the Cobb traffic...seems like d'ville pd is making it very complicated !! If anyone does add this feed online in the future, please let me know, I like to follow it.

Otherwise, I may just have to break down and start shopping for a scanner, and as I understand it, a digital scanner would not pick up the Douglas County Sheriff's office traffic (it is not digital at this time)

Sigh, of course, the wisest thing to do would be to find out if this is a permanent change...

Hi Jason,

I'm sure you are monitoring Douglasville like I am. Pretty active set of TGRPs. 31309 and 31329 are active. Seems they're here to stay. Don't know if you want to add them to your feed. That's totally your call of course. But I get a lot of hits on them and they seem to get a bunch of police activity. Maybe why they decided to get on Cobb's system.

Regards,
Rick

A digital scanner WILL receive anything in Douglas, the Sheriff is using analog repeaters.

Adding the talkgroups is not hard (simple change in Win96 and then upload to the scanner) the main issue is from your stand point it may be difficult to follow because the scanner is also scanning Smyrna, Marietta, Kennesaw, Acworth, and Austell PD as well as all the FDs.

Totally agree. We have the advantage of the scanner identifying the TGRP (in fact I also programmed the LED for each TG just to keep track police/fire) so I know where it's coming from, namely D'Ville or whatever. Have all the above tgrps plus others including the Universities in there just to keep on top of all. I always know who's who though. Unfortunately, the feed listeners don't. Lot of traffic on ole Cobb's system.

And, you're totally right on the scanner getting virtually all systems analog or digital as long as they're in range. Not just digital.
