With the system about ready to go full tilt, I am curious as to how folks are setting up their gear. Specifically the SDS line from uniden.

Trying to figure best way to set up hierachy. A bunch of different favorites, or using quick keys to turn off sets of talkgroups?

Looking to learn ways to have the ability to listen to one, two,or three of the fire zones at the push of a button or two, ability to single out what I am interested in at the moment.

How are you planning on monitoring the new system? Thank you.

The as-is import from Sentinel suffices for my Delco monitoring needs. But if you only want to pick and choose certain talkgroups and omit the rest, consider using Proscan's favorites list editor which allows for greater favorites list customization. Plus Proscan has a Radioreference differences feature which compares your favorites list with the current RRDB listing and allows you to make additions or removals with a few mouse clicks.

First observation right off the bat with the SDS scanner - it takes a long time to scan for all those control channels to acquire a signal. So if you're right on the fringe of reception where the scanner will repeatedly have to reacquire control channel signal, you're going to miss a heck of a lot of traffic.

Now back to your question - how would you monitor this system on a SDS device? Well, think about what you want to monitor most...police? Fire? EMS? There's going to be a lot of traffic to monitor and one SDS scanner is likely to miss some of it just because it's one device that scans a little slowly.

What you may want to do is enter the new Delco TRS more than once in your favorites list. Assign each Delco TRS system a separate name and a separate system quick key. Also make sure your Favorites List is assigned it's own quick key. For one Delco TRS you enter, you may want to put Dispatch, all fire zones, and maybe one or two PD sectors. Maybe the second Delco TRS you have all the PD sectors, Dispatch, and just 1 or 2 fire zones. Then you may want to enter the system a third time with a "Home" designation and assign only your local PD sector, fire zone, and EMS channel. You could also apply the same concept by region - have one Delco TRS System be the east end talkgroups for Fire and PD and the other the west side.
I definitely think you'll want to break it up into multiple "systems" and assigning the quick keys will allow you to do that.

No need to create multiple systems of the same TRS. You can certainly create new departments within the same system that only contain a small number of talkgroups then assign DQKs as needed or do a department hold. Proscan makes this a snap

My home 20 eating pizza.
I have a multi FL setup for my home county that works well for what I need. For this system? I’ll only monitor it a handful of times a year passing through. Main SDS 100 will have all the fire TGs in it with ID Search OFF.
Second SDS 100 will have the same with the fire dispatch TG and EMS TGs added. Then I’ll add a second FL with the system programmed in ID Search OFF (with any known LE TGs locked out). The second SDS also scans all the conventional channels which will I guess be removed once they go dark. All programmed by hand and Sentinel.
