I just got my feed up and running yesterday and am new to this so please bare with me. I have a few questions that I haven't seen specifically answered.

I am currently using a Dell Optiplex 240 with a 1.6Ghz P4 with 512mb of ram. I am reloading my Dell 3100 which is a 2.8GHZ with 1gb of ram to serve as the feed pc.

1. What is the normal delay in the audio from your feed?

- I am currently experiencing a 10 second delay and I wasn't sure what the ideal minimal possible. I realize there is a delay due to encoding and decoding, but I wanted some feed back.

2. Is it normal for your PC to spike to sometimes spike to 100% Cpu utilization during encoding?

- Usually it runs at about 30% during encoding and sometimes spikes to 100 based on the input. The pc is dedicated to providing the feed and is using Oddcast set to 16/22050/mono.

Thanks for your assistance.

The delay in the audio is about 10 seconds. Sometimes you can give or take a few seconds. It is normal for your computer to spike to 100% with oddcast, it did with me too. I switched to using ScannerCast which I find is alot easier to use then oddcast, and it doesnt spike up your computer cpu. Plus its easier to configure and its free also. Hope this helps! :)

Thanks
Daniel

THANKS!!! I spent hours trying to get a feed going using other programs. It took all of about 5 minutes to have ScannerCast up and running. Now I have to setup a dedicated streaming PC and I suppose I am just gonna have to bite the bullet and get a Uniden 996. I like the tagging and RR setup features.

When I have everything going I'll put it up on RR.

Thanks Again for the heads up on Scanner Cast.

Thanks for your assistance.

As far as the delay goes, 10sec+- is about what to expect when listening via a computer or internet radio that connects directly.

When using a smart phone through a service carrier, expect a longer delay as the signal has to go through there system.

As for CPU useage, I avoid that completely as I use the Barix Instreamer 100. See the Live Audio Wiki: Live Audio - The RadioReference Wiki.

This is a stand alone streaming device.
