An observation

It's great being able to track troop 6C at work and not having the Weld EMS TG in order to catch all Weld and Greeley Fire radio traffic.

Other than the Gunbarrel site (which has much of nothing on it) I can only receive the Bald Mountain site (West of Loveland) at the daytime job. Since I have an interest in Troop 3A it's in the Weld scanlist. For those not familiar 90% of the time 3A is patched to 3C and vice versa.

Now that patch tracking is a reality in both GRE and RS latest digital scanners you need to take into consideration that the target TG you wish to monitor, in my case Troop 3A, has to have a radio on that TG affiliated with the tower you are tracking on.

3C is usually on the Bald site 24/7. However having only the 3A group in the list only works if someone on the 3A group is affiliated with that tower if not the site does not broadcast the patch info on the control channel and you hear nothing until someone on 3A affiliates with it.

Basically if you are targeting listening to a certain CSP troop consider whether or not the tower you are tracking on (in single site mode) has users of that TG on it on a regular basis or if in multi-site (stat with check all CC's).

Eliminate the "Patch" groups in your scanlists otherwise it locks on to those first.

I have 3A & 3C State Patrol together, should I separate them? When I separate them will they come in by their selves then? I have not seen where it says the ID's are patched together on any of State Patrols. If any of the TG's are patched together will it show on my scanners? I don't have 6A or 6D together but I am still hitting them together and it doesn't say patch. I am using Pro-106 & 197. Sorry trying to learn more on this.

You will see the patch indication under these cases:

1. An active talkgroup in your active scanlists is patched to a talkgroup that is not in an active scanlist or has been locked out.

2. In manual mode, you are holding on a talkgroup that is patched to another talkgroup.

If the talkgroup that has been patched to is in an active scanlist, that is the talkgroup you will hear, and no indication of a patch will be given.

Still confused here!

I am able to pick up Bald and Buckhorn Mountains pretty good, Horsetooth not as well and most of the time it won't lock on it.

I hear Poudre Fire 5 and I heard it it patched with PVH EMS 5 which I never get. With the patching ability shouldn't I hear it now since it is patched to Poudre 5? Do I need to take PVH EMS 5 out of the scanlist and just leave in Poudre 5? Since I've updated the GRE 500 I still hear the calls on Poudre 5 so I know it's coming off one of those 2 towers but I don't hear any more traffic on it!

I thought by patching I could hear it with either of the 2 channels that are patched together but should I put only one in?

This is a bit confusing. Poudre Fire 5 and PVH EMS 5 are the same talkgroup. If you mean Poude Fire 1 (not Poudre Fire 5), then yes, you should get patched calls while scanning either talkgroup, just as Mike says. If you are scanning both talkgroups, you wont see the patch display.

On TG 4069, I will hear the tones and then the dispatch and them saying to go to Med 5. For fire calls I'll hear the tones on 4063. Then I will hear nothing else on 4069. Same before and after the GRE update.

This is what I think might be happening - let me know if this sounds right. They always dispatch on 4063 but when they do I medical call they also patch on 4069. Before the update I would hear it only on the patched channel - 4069. Now I would hear it on both but only on 4069 if I have them both in the same scanlist? Once they go enroute on Med 5 it isn't patched so only hear Med 5 then if one of the responding units is on Buckhorn/Bald Mtns whereas when it is patched I always hear it because at least one of the units on Fire 1 is always on one of those 2 towers. I would then only hear other traffic on Med 5 if that 1 or 2 units on Bald/Buckhorn Mtns was on the call. Long story short - what I see makes sense if Med 5 and Fire 1 are patched only for the call dispatch and not for units enroute, onscene etc.

I just downloaded the update on both my 106 and 197. I heard 6B units on 6D. So, I put the 106 on 6D and the 197 on 6B, but only hearing traffic on 6D. Am I missing something? Shouldn't I hear the same traffic out of both scanners?

Last week (?) when CCPD, ACSO and CSP were doing the perimeter at Hwy 85 @ 104th, someone (I assume AdCom) had CCPD1 patched with MAC 3. However, the display did not show "ptch" like it normally does. Why not?

Maybe this was the case?

GRE does it again!

Add the PRO-107 (iSCAN) to the list for a firmware update through the iSCAN programming software that allows patch tracking on EDACS and Motorola analog systems.
