So I was in New Haven today and I see a New Haven police officer with new Apx radios but I was wondering if they’re still analog or if they moved over or if they’re moving over to digital I’m doing a job in New Haven and did not bring my radio. I have not been in New Haven for a little bit.

New Haven PD is currently all Analog WITH the exception of the SWAT frequency which is p25 conventional.

Or maybe their radios are old as dirt and they decided to update them. APX does analog just fine, no need for a fancy FLASHcode with P25 and trunking, although ordering them with P25 makes them eligible for grant money to offset the cost to local taxpayers.

Their SWAT channel is fully encrypted now since mid spring & it is being mostly used by the newly created regional Auto Theft Task Force but since Dispatch does not have capabilities to transmit on that channel (modules in clear only & no encryption key on the consoles) they have a portable in their PSAP with the "e" but they never turn that portable on.

Then you must have the encryption key. The last time they were in the clear was the morning of 5-10-2024. Strapped encryption since then.

They have a portable in their PSAP with the "e" but they never turn that portable on.
If they can select it on or off via portable, it is not strapped. I'll tag the frequency with the lower case e to indicate encryption capable.

I'm no longer "in the know" anymore as is @CentracomGold , but I checked my recordings, and since May there hasn't been one single clear transmission. So yes, I just assumed it was strapped, but admit it was just a very educated guess. :)
