Hello all, I bought a PSR-410 recently and despite reading the manual and the "Easier To Read" manual, I am still having a problem with programming.
I bought it here in Utah from a gentleman and he programmed quite a bit of it before I picked it up.
It's quite different from my previous conventional scanners from my past. I get the "Object" part, but the "Wildcard" is confusing, to me at least.
So, I'm looking for someone familiar with this model that can 'splain to me how to do what I want to do. Some TalkGroups are missing and I'd like to add Tags to some as well. I'm in Taylorsville, Utah. I know we are going digital soon and will need a new one but still want to get this one straightened out.
Thanks, Michael

I love the PSR-410, but it does not do P25. With Utah moving to their new P25 statewide system, I wonder how much, and/or how long, you're going to get good listening on the '410. That is if you're main interest is Police & Fire.

I use WIN500 to program my '310 & '410 but I know some people have troubles getting the software licensed. You do get a 30 day free trial. You'll learn a lot just looking at the software fields and organization, whether or not you actually program a radio with it.

If you have the programming cable, it is far faster and easier to use programming software than using the scanner menus. There is less chance of programming errors since all of the entries are visible at a glance instead of being buried in menus. You can type the alpha tags in directly from the computer keyboard. Besides WIN500, you can also use Butel ARC310 which is still supported, and you will have no problems getting the keys. Download and install it for the free trial period and see what you think. The old UCA trunked system type is Motorola. For the Salt Lake County Simulcast site, you will need the custom 800 MHz rebanded band plan. You only need to enter the 3 red control channel capable frequencies in the site. Remove the lower case "c" when entering the frequencies.

Hi, thanks for the replies. Haven't been listening for years, since Riverside, CA. went encrypted. So, best place to get the cable? Scratch that, ordered one from the big "A" place. Once it gets here I will DL software and give it a shot. Will post with results.
Thanks again guys.

Here are the instructions for entering the Motorola UCA trunked system into the ARC310 software:

  • Click on Trunk Systems in Object Brower.
  • Click on Add (Green + Sign).
  • System Type should show Mot 800/900.
  • Double click on Alpha Tag.
  • Name system UCA Salt Lake Co
  • Double click on Frequencies.
  • Enter 853.0875, 853.1125, and 853.5125
  • Click on OK.
  • Double click on Multi-Site and set to Off.
  • Double click on T-Tables and set to Custom.
  • Double click on Edit T-Tables and click on Load Reband Table.
  • Click on OK.
  • That finishes setting up the system.
  • Go to the File tab and click on Save As.
  • Save file as Salt Lake Co UT
  • You are now ready to click on Talkgroup in Object Browser and add talkgroups.

Success! Selected the site, then picked the talkgroups I wanted and sent them.
Amazon cable, ARC 310 software and RR's database. Now I can claim to be a "Good Listener", haha.
And sooo much easier than programming through panel.
Thanks again
Michael

It's really cool after using the RR database and ARC310 how it automatically tags the TGs for all the ones I selected during programming, primarily SLPD, WVPD, Taylorsville, Murray and such. Still need to assign the LED actions for them, beats trying to find my glasses to see who's talking. Enough about me.

Alrighty then, another question(s). The Wildcard function will scan for any TG on the system, correct? Do I need to set that up on a separate or unused bank? I've been through the manuals and can't find the procedure.

Treat the wildcard like any other TG. Label it WildCard. Note that there are two types of wildcards; one will just pick up TGs other than what you've explicitly programmed. The other will pick up Radio to Radio communications.

I use wildcards sparingly. If it is a new system and no details are known, it is great. If you are on an unfamiliar system, it might be handy to identify unknown stuff. Once I get a hit from a TG via wildcard, I'll program it in and specifically add it or lock it out. Wildcards tend to get me a lof of traffic I don't want to hear from Public Works, Buses, and the like.
