Thanks for the notes guys.
I have now driven the Pilot for 2 days with the radios and made a few observations and one major "Doh!".
The speakers are mounted under the passenger seat facing the rear and I thought they would be loud enough based on what I had heard at the hamfest when I bought them. I was upset that when I put them into operation that the volume was so low that I could barely hear the scanners with the engine off, and couldn't hear a darn thing when driving, especially with the heater fan. One of the scanners had no audio at all.
When I investigated the non working speaker I was surprised to hear the internal speakers still working, and in fact louder than the remotes. I was wondering if the remote heads caused the speakers on the BC15 and BC996's to stay on or something when I had that "Doh!" moment we all dread.
Now repeat after me:
The Green jack is the RECORD jack, the Black one is for the external speaker!
Once I plugged the speakers into the proper jack all was well with the world!
I thought the CDM's would sound OK even within the console, but the audio is very muffled, so I will be adding remote speakers for these as well. I have plenty of room for them, I think I will put them under the RH-96 mounted to the front of the center console, they will be nicely hidden.
I also think I will get a new GPS antenna, Garmin makes a matchbook-sized remote antenna with a mag mount, I had one on my last car but it did not survive the uninstall process. I can then use that NMO mount for a dedicated 800 MHz. antenna for the 996.
Other that a faux paus and a couple minor changes everything seems to work well.
