Anyone have a suggestion for an upgraded antenna for the Home Patrol 2? I’m putting this in my work truck, not allowed to put an external antenna on the vehicle. Will just have the HP2 mounted to a cup holder mount. I currently just have the stock antenna, so I was curious if there was a better one out there?

I’m mostly scanning a conventional UHF system in my county 80-90% of the time, and occasionally the statewide 800mhz P25 system when I travel across the state.

You could use a telescoping antenna, like the 'back of set' antenna that comes with most desktop/mobile scanners. Something like this.

I prefer this Diamond antenna. It also is telescoping, and it has sort of a 'chart' imprinted on it with how much to extend the antenna for specific frequency ranges. It can be rotated or pivoted to change the angle so that the antenna itself can be vertical, even if the scanner is not laying flat. You would need to use the SMA>to>BNC adapter that came with your HP-2. I like this antenna since I can extend it to a length for better reception on a specific frequency band.

I have not tried this type antenna, but it would not require a 'permanent mounting' on your work vehicle.

Once you decide which type of antenna you want, do a little searching online or perhaps on eBay to look for the best price, and lowest, or preferably "no" shipping charges.
