I am using an SDS 100 to receive the NJICS system.
I programmed it in a favorite list with the Union county site and the West orange site, all others avoided.
On a scale of 1-10 I receive the west orange site at a 7 and the Union County at 10.
I would like to avoid the West Orange Site since Union County is better for me my question is:
Do both sites receive the same traffic or will I miss transmissions by avoiding W. Orange site.

I can't speak to the NJ system specifically, but in general terms, the concept behind trunking is to spread the load. Thus, it would make no sense for any each site to carry all the traffic in the system. Even simulcast systems won't use every site, every time to broadcast everything.

So.. I believe.. If you remove either site, you will miss out on some traffic. It's easy enough to test, when you hear traffic on one site switch to the other site.. Do you hear the same traffic?

By the time I switch sites the transmission is over and I don't have a second scanner to use for the test

I don't have an sds100 but do have an sds200 and turning the scroll knob when the radio is stopped on a channel (talkgroup) will continue the scan. I *presume* (but don't know) it works the same on the sds100.

Since you say you are only scanning 2 sites, unless it's a very busy system that should quickly move you to the 2nd site.

No. Yes.

Some of the same talkgroups are carried at both sites, but there is quite a bit of uniqueness between the sites. Depending on what you are trying to listen to, you will likely miss something. The NJICS is designed to be efficient, so it will only carry talkgroup traffic on sites where those talkgroups are actually needed.

I would suggest looking at the nodes for each site in Calls, where you can compare what activity is coming across each site.
