I can't receive Troop A South very well in the Camden city area. If I do get a signal it is
very weak. I get a very strong signal where I work in West Berlin N.J....in fact I work in a
metal frame building and can receive signals with no antenna attached!!! The antenna I
do use at work and in Camden is the radio shack 800mhz antenna. The scanners I use
are the bcd396t, bc246t, and the pro 95...all have the poor reception problem in Camden when trying to receive Troop A South.Camden city PD and County ems/fire are fine.
When driving from Berlin to Camden my signal gets weaker and weaker. My mobile antenna is the antenex all band and the antenex 800mhz band antenna with nmo mag mount. Any reason for the weak signal? Any help on improving my reception? Any
help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You recieve NJSP strong in Berlin cause there is a Troop A repeater on the tower at the Barracks on the Rt.73 circle. Look up at the top of the tower and you will see a large black stick. That is the antenna. The others that I can remember in Troop A are: Woodstown, Barracks- Rt.40, Atlantic City on one of the casinos, Dover Twp/Toms River-Rt.37 DOT yard, Warren Grove-off Rt.539. I can't remember the rest but I believe there is one in Woodbine at the Barracks.
NJSP 800 Mhz is a very fickle and weak signal, so you are not alone. You didn't mention if you were using an outdoor antenna, but that would defintely help. Try moving it around before mounting it to check for the signal, sort of like satillite TV.

The Dover Township site is Troop C. He also mentioned that he's using the RadioShack 800 MHz Antenna, which is a portable antenna, and a Antennex 800MHz Mag-Mount.

On this subject, I see a license for some Troop B trunk frequencies at Waterford Works, Camden County. Specifically, *.9625 for 856-860. See WNXZ718. Listed ERP is 1000.

Is this an IR site? Or an error?

The Troop A sites I'm aware of, via licenses, are:
all the above (yes Woodbine, & no Dover)
Bridgeton at the barracks
Mulica at the barracks

Wow, that's interesting. It would be amazing if we see a Troop B site in Camden County. Is there any reason for it, though?

There is a troop B site in Berlin, It has been there for 3 years or so and carries the first 9 channels of the system, only.

I seem to remember it was installed to upgrade coverage in the Red Lion area....

Why Troop B? The Red Lion Station operates on the Troop C system.

Hi Dave/all,

It's actually Troop C at Berlin, not Troop B.

BTW, as for the Troop B freqs licensed at Waterford Works, that is a big mystery. Maybe there are/were plans for an intelli-repeater there?

Getting back to the Camden reception, I recently spent a couple of days in the Penns Landing area of Philadelphia just across the River from Camden and had great reception of the NJSP Troop A System. I have also received it well in Center City Philly from the upper floors of a hotel. I suspect you may be in a signal shadow. I would second the suggestion to try moving the scanner to different location in the room. I have found many dead spots in the NJSP system in my travels over the years, although coverage seems to have been gradually improving.

The Berlin tower would be the closest Troop A site to Camden/Philadelphia. When I lived in Philly, I needed an outdoor antenna to reliably receive the signal although a portable was very choppy. Remember the system was first designed back in the 80's for basically mobile reception but there were some additional sites put in afterwards (such as Mullica Twp.). When Troop A moves to SZ and CAI, it would be wise to fill in the gaps with additional sites.
