I noticed today that one site of the new Maricopa County Trunked System is now online.

System ID 49A
WACN BEE00

Site 134
NAC 494
Broadcasting Callsign WQVV844
770.51875 Voice Channel
771.33125 Alt Control Channel
771.49375 Alt Control Channel
771.70625 Alt Control Channel
771.83125 Primary Control Channel

Based on the FCC license, this appears to be a simulcast site for with transmitters on South Mountain as well as in Chandler and Mesa.

I have not caught any voice or affiliations yet, but I'll be watching it now.

Maybe other sites around the valley that I cannot receive might be active. Here are the new licenses and freqs to listen for control channels.

No voice transmissions yet, but there are a few data transmissions from Radio IDs 1, 3, and 5. I verified a few more voice freqs too. Also site 134 is not yet advertising any neighbor sites.

So has anyone been able to to determine is this strictly P2 or mixed system yet? Agencies? MCSO?

Strictly P2, every user that is on the current county system will transition over to the P2 system. Unfortunately I believe a lot of encryption will be in place on this system.

This will probably be Phase-2, but there is always an outside possibility of non-Phase-2 on the system. Way too early to tell, unless encryption is used right from the beginning. Pro96com and Unitrunker will be your best friends here ;)

When PCWIN was installed it was basically the Motorola techs on the radios initially in tech talk groups setting up each site independently, then eventually connecting the sites via back haul.

Don't expect to catch anyone operationally on this system for quite some time. There is a lot of synchronizing going on, especially on the Simulcast linked sites.

You are likely to hear for the short term quick tech talk, and possibly one of the Motorola recordings played over and over ad nauseum until the site is properly set-up.

Eventually, on the PCWIN system, they started handing out training radios to a department or two at a time, to let their training folks get a feel for the new system, and so they could teach their department members how to operate the radios.

At McDOT they began replacing XTL's in vehicles at the end of last year. In January we turned in our old MTS2000's and were given APX radio's. From what I've observed, MCSO and jail's employees all have APX radio's, same with animal control. Looking at Unitrunker there were a few transmission's earlier in the day that were encrypted coming off of 1-034. From what I've heard MCSO will definitely be all encrypted.............I hope not.

This does seem to be the trend everywhere now, and our likely new Sheriff comes from Phoenix PD so at the least I would expect all hot calls to be encrypted.

Are you hearing about the encryption from reliable internal sources?

For those watching as this comes live, be observant.

On the 10th of November, as I was driving up I-10 from Nogales to Phoenix, I heard some TG's, active TG's, on what is purported to be the Wickenburg site (Morristown) of the new MCSO TRS.

But, I was hearing Ak-Chin TG's.

I just compared the licenses for the two TRS's. Sure enough, except for one frequency, they share the same EXACT frequencies. It's normal to see one or two shared frequencies on systems that are far enough away that they can't interfere with each other.

The MCSO-Morristown license has five of the six repeater frequencies found on the Ak-Chin license.

This threw me for a loop at first, but problem solved :)

Ak-Chin License - ULS License - Trunked Public Safety 700 MHz License - WQPY838 - AK-CHIN INDIAN COMMUNITY - Frequencies Summary

MCSO - Morristown - License - ULS License - Trunked Public Safety 700 MHz License - WQWV287 - MARICOPA, COUNTY OF - Frequencies Summary

Thanks for bringing this up. I noticed this too as I am scanning all if the new Maricopa County freqs as conventional looking for control channels. This got me excited when I originally noticed it. This is good info so it does not fool anyone else!

I can pick-up the Scottsdale site (133) just barely so I don't think it is on Thompson PK but in Scottsdale somewhere. Control Channel info is:

772.70625
773.88125
774.38125
774.88125 - current

We're getting ready to do a huge pour this weekend in the west side of Phoenix so did some quick programming after I checked into the hotel, all the conventional channels for White Tanks are in a scan and suddenly 773.96875 came up lima charlie however it wasn't what I expected... according to the log it was System 534 and the audio was Phoenix Fire Dispatch so it appears there might be a license error. What's odd is that it's only Fire Dispatch no other traffic... I'll leave it running overnight.

I noticed this the other day but did not have a chance to take a closer look. I had a chance to monitor today, and it turns out this is a voice channel for the RWC Sacaton Site (Site 109).

I also confirmed this by listening to the site. In the 15 mins that I listened, all that was active was talkgroup 1795. That is why you only heard Phoenix fire dispatch on 773.96875. This freq is not part of the license for that site.

The only licenses in the state for 773.96875 are for Maricopa County with two transmitters on White Tanks, and one at I-10 & Miller Rd.

I caught my first voice transmissions on the Chandler/Mesa site this morning. Unfortunately, it was encrypted. Talkgroup 11 was Phase 2 encrypted. Radio IDs were 92 and 103. I'm guessing it was just testing.
