New NYPD Dispatching System

For those of you interested the NYPD is finally switching from the 1960 SPRINT system to the Intergraph ICAD system on Wed at 1am. Im sure there will be hiccups which may make for some interesting listening.

I/CAD if properly thought out and setup is pretty nice. It has great radio console, GPS, messaging and other features that if used can be very powerful. Still takes a bit to get use two if switching from another product that you've used forever...but yes will be interesting!

All those billions of dollars in 911 fees that they collect on every cellphone and every home phone, may be finally paying off.. Its the biggest money scam ever.. It was supposed to be for the creation of the enhanced 911 system, but they havent stopped collecting it yet..

In keeping with the trend of just about anything the city tries to "improve", the new system crashed twice in the first two days of operation. Both times call takers and dispatchers had to revert to good old pen and paper to get the jobs out.

I think I heard a few of the precincts complaining about it / mentioning it over the airwaves about 2 days ago...Telling all units to standby and that the system was down.

I am new to monitoring PD, FD, etc so anything out of the ordinary is pretty interesting... !

Reminds me of the early 70s, when the original traffic map system was taken off-line - permanently. NYC never has enough money to do it right the first time. They do it on the cheap, then do it over.

I think Augie means that MTN isn't on the same frequency as MTS/17th.

No, North units are still on this frequency.
