I wonder if this is connected:

This morning I heard the TPS Dispatcher calling out for all the Motor(cycle) units using "Mitres" to return to the station "post haste" because Telecom was waiting to swap out their radios.

I think that if someone can get a look at the portable units that are being used by the Motor units it might give us a hint about what's to come.

Given all the testing and short-term switches between TalkGroups, I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a P25 system in TPS' future.

If they were going to swap out radios portables would be the low hanging fruit, and the ones used predominantly during the G20.

That makes sense as I was listening to ETF practicing convoy arrangements from the airport, and they indicated they were with a large number of motor units, but I couldn't track them down on the regular Public Safety system, so I'd assume they are using new mitres on this new system.

Lots of activity on the system today...

Tonight I'm actually hearing them in D mode on talkgroup 00327 (DEC)

My Pro 2096 is decoding between 58% spiking to 88% at times on control channel 859.8125. Heard calls for 55 Div. quite clearly. All calls seem to be on 327 no other talkgroup used so far since 9:30 pm.

Hi Gang!

I'm trying to set this new system up so I can "hear" whatever there might be to hear :)

It's been a while since I programmed a new system into my scanner by hand, especially one we don't know everything about as of yet! LOL :)

I've got a Uniden 396XT. I programmed it as a P25 System, and selected "Standard Trunk". I entered all the frequencies listed on the Wiki page. I haven't done anything to the band plan, but under "Edit Band Plan" I've got: 0:851.00625/6.25
1:762.00625/6.25

When I'm scanning I can see the 859.8125 Control Channel indicated, and if I hold on the system I can see the system ID flashing on and off, and I'm getting the system at two bars, but no talkgroups are displayed, digital, encrypted, or otherwise. Should I be seeing talkgroups come up, even if I can't hear the activity on them?

Should I be doing something different with the Band Plan or any of the other settings?

Any help most appreciated!

Disregard my previous post, but I'll leave it up for anyone else who needs help programming their 396XT.
Apparently the Band Plan settings don't need to be touched.

When I just went to a strong enough area I'm getting "Somewhat" clear P25 audio with a TG ID of 313.

That is so strange! The signal is weak at best and the antenna is on top of FCP.. one would think they would be using it for 1 and 5 district.. not 3 and 4.... strange.

i programmed all the freqs in as a p25 system on bcd396t and when i select the group it scrolls id search across the screen and where the the channels show up it says NFM but no numbers, i also occassionally see LNK, ENC on the screen but no talkgroup ids. if i push the hold button i get nothing out of the speaker. i live in north york so i should be able to get the tower, is there something im doing wrong or is there a special way to program the scanner to get the system.
thanks

It is all encrypted so your scanner will pass right over top of the transmission as if they are not even there. If you hold on the control channel you will see the ID's pop up but you wont hear anything. You could also run Unitrunker or Pro96com if you have a tapped radio.

In addition to yours, I also caught these over the weekend, but not 3026: 3063 3044 3060 3001. It's quite annoying hearing that enc noise, had to hit the L/O a few times, sounds like aliens chit-chatting !

...reminds me of The Simpsons...

Trouble in Paradise

Apparently the encryption failed today and they had to fall back to one of the conventional (non-trunking and non-encrypted) channels this afternoon during a protest.

None :( , but the control channel is still purring away.
Also keeping my other ear on the Prov. Wide RCMP system to check for new talkgroups.

I wouldn't be too upset that it has gone silent. In fact, I hope the CCs disappear too.

As long as that site stays up and is getting use there is some traffic that is not in the clear.

(Less activity on New Site)=(less likelihood of a move to encryption by TPS)

(CC disappearing)=(Longer before TPS goes P25/digital)=(longer before I have to spend $700 on a new scanner)=

During the summit they alluded to a new channel numbering system. Somebody was asking on the regular radio on TPS 35TAC32 what channel to dial over to on the new radio, and the reply came back as 2M. This was last Saturday night.
