I gave my PRO-91, 150-channel scanner to my brother and bought myself the PRO-95 this afternoon. Wow, what a step up.

My town does not use a trunked system, nor do any of the surrounding towns, but it's nice to know it's capable in case Hazlet (NJ) goes that route.

I am interested in buying software that I can use with this radio but don't know where to turn. Can anyone suggest a program that they've had some success with? I see that Radio Shack sells the cable for about $20.

Cheers,
Jeff

You can't go wrong with the FREE software from Don Starr at: http://starrsoft.com/freeware/win95/default.asp

At that link you will also find info on several cables that work good.

And yes, the Pro-95 is a good radio as long as you don't need digital.

My Bearcat has the PL tone feature. I too wish this radio supported it. Actually, I am surprised that my town's freqs work without the PL code, and maybe even more surprised that Police Call doesn't list the PL codes. Hmmm. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.

Thanks for the W95 and cable recommendations.

Howdy,
I own a Pro-95 scanner deal and so far I been happy with
the scanner. I owned for a year now and I havent had any
problems with it either in home or on the road traveling.
Its good for on the road traveling you can hear the
cb radio channel 19 while the truckers talk or they
give out smokey bear reports to people on the radio.
I always listen to the amatuer radio operator's or
police frequencies. Have fun with your radio :)

It's in the shop....

Once I figured out which PC/IF cable to buy from RS and that the Starrsoft Win 95 was the software to use, I have really enjoyed the scanner. My wife gave it to me last Christmas. However, the audio from the speaker became very irratic in October. If I bumped on the speaker, the sound would come and go. Being it was still under warranty, I took it to my local RS dealer and he mailed it back for repairs. I sure hope it comes back working well.

The plastic belt clip broke a few months back. Any idea where to get another? Or maybe even a better one.

Thanks.

The Win95 software is great. I can't believe he gives that away for FREE.

Too bad I can't take advantage of trunking. It sure seems like the software makes trunk programming easier to complete.

As for the belt clip. Get one of the peg style belt clips for cell phones. Glue the peg to the back with super glue. Be sure to sand and clean the surfaces first. Mine came with a belt clip, dash mount and two pegs. I put pegs on both the 95 and 94. I have attached the dash holder to my dash. It keeps my radio secure and I can see the display.

PL codes are used for segregation, without them, you would catch everthing that is transmitted. It is working as designed. A quick primer on PL tones can be found here:

Thanks everyone, for the great information. I will visit the links that everyone shared with me.

Hopefully, I can contribute as much as what others have shared with me.

I just got the Pro-95 last night. I had a hard time programming it at first but then I re-read everything and think that I figured it all out. I am loving it. The scanner that I had before was not trunking compatible, so I had all sorts on noise that is now fixed.

I just got my Pro 95 last night too. I'm a total scanning noob, but I managed to crash through the manual and program it for the trunking systems in my city. After slaving through entering a bank via the keypad, I came to my senses and used Win95 for the rest.

Aside from weak signals (which I really cannot help, but intend to rig my car with an antenna) reception was fine.

Happy scanning all!

congrats to all you on the purchase of the 95. It is an excellent radio especially to start out at trunking with. Definitly go with Win95. It's free and makes life a whole lot eaiser when it comes to programming. :)

My mother didn't get me the COM port for the scanner when she got it, so I had to program it by hand and do the text labels by hand. It really wasn't that bad, kind of enjoyed it actually. Sure, it took time, but it got the job done.
