With all the changes and modes of transmission that are available it would be nice if Uniden or Whistler had some new advanced products comming our way. What do you guys think?

I am not aware of any recent new modes that could be received by a scanner that have not already been addressed by the current Uniden models except Tetra. Tetra could likely be added to the existing SDS100/200 models via a software upgrade and paid activation. It is up to Uniden to decide if they could recoup the cost of developing that.

Uniden does not announce models in advance. Anything you hear otherwise is speculation at best.

With all the activity going on today I hear a lot of talk about more security on all communications. The other night on U-TUBE there was a live stream of some guys running around with a high end Uniden Trunk Tracker chasing calls. APCO is pushing for higher levels of security on all channels.

Well, if you are speaking of encryption as "APCO is pushing for higher levels of security", then the answer is an unequivocal no. No scanner will decode encrypted communications, if they did it would defeat the purpose of "higher levels of security" wouldn't it?

Is this where I put up a pic of a headstone with the epitaph that says, "Our demise as scanner enthusiasts was self inflicted!"????

If there are idiots running around chasing those we monitor with our scanners and posting it publicly online would be a good reason
to require more security. Just sayin.

Uniden Trunk Tracking scanners have been around for a very long time. I wouldn't exactly call them "high end". They are a consumer scanner that has the ability to track several types of trunking system.

APCO has nothing to do with higher security. The move to encryption is because many years (decades) ago when agencies signed agreements to access FBI and State criminal justice databases, they agreed to not share that information with anyone who didn't need it. That includes scanner listeners. States and FBI are starting to enforce the contracts that were signed by the agencies, and that is resulting in many agencies utilizing encryption or finding other secure ways of handling CJI.

mmckenna......just after your post it appears Weber Co. has changed the dispatch format for almost every call. There is no info given to first responders about the call. Just who, where, channel, and response code. Most of the LE dispatch is now being done exclusively through the CAD on their mobile computers and discussion about locations is all but non existent.

I suppose it has to do with the agreements.....

The scanners available right now allow us to listen to pretty much everything we're entitled. I think the engineers/manufacturers should concentrate on the bugs that exist in these radios.

According to the latest I'm hearing that is exactly what most in the LE community are pushing for is encryption on everything.

Which as we all know it will end the hobby for most of us.

I do agree with having the mfg's of our current scanners working the bugs out. I can stand looking at a tower 6 miles up on the mountain top and the reception on my new sds100 is garbled and scratchy. Using an 800 MHz antenna.
