If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Can the Radtel 950 be programmed to receive the vhf airband by hand or do I need to program the frequencies using a computer?
When you enter a VHF airband frequency in the VFO via the keypad, the mode will change to AM automatically. You can enter them into the CPS as well.

My RT950pro will scan in AM from 225 to 260 (then reverts to 200), and also from 330-400 (then reverts to 330). You have to set AM manually, and there appears to be a receive hole between 260-330.
I can't say for sure that it will actually receive in these ranges. I heard no voice, but the scan did stop from time to time on noise.

Thanks for the info! That gap is unfortunate, there is some good stuff in the 260-330 range.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on one. I am pleasantly surprised with it so far. Not an awesome radio and I wish it had some digital modes, but it fills a specific niche for me.

I was able to program in frequencies throughout the UHF air band both from the keypad and software. I can confirm it receives AM in the 340-350 range. We have a local tower frequency in the 290 range and I can't confirm if it works there yet as I haven't heard anything on it.

You can receive VHF band and store by hand . I made tests with VHF (138-144) and (UHF ) military band and it is working fine and AM sound is really good . I have had trouble to find the right csv file format and I found it on telegram channel . I did test on VHF low in 35 MHz receiving local motorway management . I'm still waiting for the new CPS wich can rename zone from zone1 zone2 to some more readeable . Sorry for english I lack of practice. Scan speed is one of the best in all TX I have. I need to rebuild antenna in order to test Satcom on UHF band.

Are you actually receiving in the 260-330 range?

I need to get a better antenna as well, the one that comes with seems pretty terrible.

Thoughts on the Nagoya 146/220/440 one anyone?

Sorry, must have missed that bit. I must admit that I am going off Radtel devices as well. Started with a RT-900 which I returned because the display was not fitted straight and very poor spurious emissions, Changed to a RT-920 which is quite nice I suppose but the buttons are very hard to press and has dual antenna sockets - I was going to sell it on but the last firmware update provides for a single channel display with super clear info so I may keep it. Then came the RT-950, supposed to be the bees knees but then we find out is stone deaf on LW & MW and the "updated" replacement is exactly the same!
Yeah, I'm not sure what the deal is. I heard about them doing internal electronics upgrades to fix the deafness issue and about other problems that updates that were supposed to fix issues. But mine I'm pretty sure is a model before the electronics upgrades and didn't have the latest firmware and mine has performed every advertised feature flawlessly. I'm not trying to show off or gloat or anything like that. I'm just confused and suspecting they must have some serious issues with q n a among many other things to have such a widely mixed bag of problems and how hit or miss these issues seem to be.

I prefer a "telescoping whip" antenna vs the springier ones personally, though I have friends that swear by those Nagoya rubber duck antennas.

I have bought more than a dozen different brands and styles of antenna for various handhelds, and they have all worked pretty much as advertised. (Unless you get a cheap knock-off of the name brand you thought you were buying)

I did test on 317.5 Mhz AM witch is a common military management frequency for us . Sound great . I m using a Dual band 5.5 meters vertical antenna .

0.23 is NFG. It broke PL decoding on receive. Don't bother. And zone names haven't been implemented yet. I imagine that'll take an updated CPS, which who knows when that'll drop.

Is there a way to nuisance delete a channel when scanning? Closest I have found is “CH-DELETE” and it does exactly that, deletes the whole channel. I haven’t found a way to add or delete a channel from the scan list from the keypad at all.

Hopefully a fix for the broken PL decode will be coming. This is a deal killer for me, my 950 Pro can't decode PL and acts like others describe like priority monitor is enabled when it isn't, changing the RX mode to CSQ fixes it but what is the point of having CTCSS decode if it doesn't properly unmute?

When the channel is selected and indicating on the display go to menu then VFO&CH menu option. In there go to sub menu item #6 Scan Add and select Delete. As for an on the fly nuisance while scanning, no. I have not found that option available.
