Okay. I'm single, so I can get me a new "Toy" anytime (almost) I want. Most are not as fortunate (?), so I ask,,,,,,,,,,,, Did the Jolly Old Elf, leave anyone get a new Scanner under the tree this year?

It wasn't an under the tree present, but I did recently purchase a Whistler TRX-1 off the forum here.

Definitely NOT replacing my SDS100... but it was interesting learning an entirely new scanner and scanner program.

I've been wondering about those Whistler scanners. Do they make you pay them to unlock DMR and other types of systems?
How's the performance compared to a Uniden? I know Uniden's digital scanners are not great on analog. I had a BCD436HP for a short time, before returning it due to poor performance on analog, and simulcast distortion on digital, rendering it useless anywhere but at my own house - only because there's a tower within line of sight.

Do a search and you'll find plenty of discussion on that topic. Interesting to read for sure.

It wasn't on Christmas and no one gave me a scanner as a gift, but I purchased a scanner for a Christmas gift for both my wife and I. It was needed as being unable to scan all the providers of utilities in a smallish remote mountain community where it can really dump snow was leaving a large hole of missing communications. There are a number of people in town and even one newspaper reporter who call us when things are happening, knowing we have scanners and that I'm an expert on frequency use. So when Southern California Edison changed over to a Phase 2 digital trunked system about 3 years ago we needed to update our scanner repertoire. The possibility for a ProVoice or simicast system being built in the country is very low, so I purchased the Uniden BCD325P2, but ordered the DMR and NXDN upgrades with it. The country only has 3 trunked systems and two possible business DMR systems, neither one of which are in our town. SCE has the Phase 2 system, the Los Angeles Dept. of Water and Power just installed a 900 MHz Phase 1 system and Mammoth Mountain Ski Area is running an analog Type 1 system originally installed in the late 1980's or early 1990's. I decided on a handheld as that will have the most utility during power outages. I will take it with me when visiting family the Phoenix area, which has a large trunked system that is similicast and infamously hard to monitor if you don't have a SDS-100 or 200. The family members we stay with have a lot of topographic barriers to a lot of the sites and one that can be seen on a mountain from their front porch, I'm hoping to not have problems, whenever we are able to return for a visit. A SDS-100 for the 2-3 weeks we visit family did not pencil out so I chose a lower cost option. Having one Phase 2 system within range does not justify the cost of a SDS-200 base station.
