New SDS100 owner here. I was looking in Sentinel sw trying to do a negative volume offset on one trunked talkgroup. I went to DATABASE/MY STATE/MY COUNTY/MY ENTITY and brought up the city fire list of talkgroups. I attempted to enter an offset for the ALERT group but no changes are allowed. I was able to select AVOID for that talkgroup however. I talked to Uniden tech support and was advised there was no way to do this. She said the volume software was actually a BUTEL product??? I guess Uniden bought a license to add it to their Sentinel sw. This ALERT channel is VERY LOUD. Loud enough that I have to turn the volume down from 7 to 2 to reduce the computer generated voice to the same level as the talk channels. Very annoying. If anyone has any ideas, I'm interested. I did ask her if there was a way to ask for a sw update that would allow a single talkgroup volume offset change. She wasn't sure.

I see I have some info in another RR forum that relates to this. I'll try that. Thanks for everyone's time reading.

Volume offset is in Sentinel.

Are you trying this in the full db or in a favorites list? Pretty sure you can only do that in a fav list.

He also said it was a feature Uniden got from Butel and uses in Sentinel…

Regardless of who invented it or were it came from, it's in Sentinel. Uniden Customer Service employees should be aware of all features of the software if they are answering the phones at Uniden for people calling in with problems or questions. Seems a good portion do not have any knowledge about products they are feilding calls for. I must say, I do not remember these issues before Covid.

I think there was a misunderstanding between the Uniden rep. and the OP. If that was the case then BuTel would have implemented it in the DMA types too. The Volume Offset function was first implemented in the Home Patrol scanner before Sentinel was created, and BuTel Home Patrol support. Probably the late great UPMan's ideal. Sentinel was created to support the Home Patrols and later BCDx36HP and SDSx00 scanners.

I think the Uniden rep. meant to say or the OP misunderstood was that the BuTel software (my ProScan too) can modify the full database and change the Volume Offset per channel. The drawback is when Sentinel updates the full database then the changes will go back to the default.

The database has a reference number for each object, a frequency, a TG and so on. Would it be possible that when editing the database that the reference number and the related data with edited values are also stored separately in a folder and when updating database there could be a function to restore the values from that extra folder?

If the database had an update of a TG, maybe its text tag, where you had edited some other values, then the new text tag will be overwritten by the restore function. But if it compares saved data with the DB data and see a difference it could display the data from both and ask to overwrite Yes/No/All.

You might try the antenuator?
I am trying in the full DB. I have not created any FAVORITES lists. No, the ATTENUATOR won't do what I want. It attenuates the RF signal strength, not the audio level. I'll attempt a FAVORITES list creation to see if that'll accomplish what I want to do. I am waiting for that TG to come up again to try to HOLD on it, and then reduce it's volume level with the FUNCTION/toggling the VOLUME OFFSET levels as suggested by another person answering me earlier. Thanks to all for the responses.

Hi Dave. The entity you showed here is a conventional listing, not trunked. I'll go look at it however to see if it allows changes for a trunked TG. Thanks.

Works in trunked also.

If you read the scanner into Sentinel, you can make the setting before hand, and you can also do it in the scanner before hand also.
