Tait Electronics Limited is introducing a new suite of IP67-rated trunked and conventional portable radio solutions with its TP8100 series.
The TP8120 (conventional) and TP8140 (trunked) are full 16 key radios while TP8115 (conventional) and TP8135 (trunked) come with limited keypad. These four products come with the same two-shot moulded construction, 24 character LCD display, easy-to-use Windows programming software and a 2,000 mAh Li-Ion battery as standard.
“This is a serious radio for the most challenging conditions: construction, utilities, local government, ports, airports, anywhere where teams need to communicate in a difficult working environment,” said Tony Davis, Product Manager. “Users communicating where noise, dust, dirt and rain are issues will find that the TP8100s’ quality manufacture delivers better communications and greater reliability.”
A programmable emergency key and Lone Worker capability improve employee safety while high performance accessories such as speaker microphones / radio earpiece combinations and audio headsets complete the solution.

“Whether it’s the angled rubber volume control or the large tactile PTT button, a lot of thought has gone into how this radio is put together,” added Tony. Tait has been designing and manufacturing radios for 40 years and this mechanical design expertise is invested in the whole TP8100 series.
Features proving popular
Dealers recommending the affordable TP8100 series will find this is a reliable radio that won’t let them or their customers down. When partnering with Tait to deliver a value-added system solution, a system integrator or dealer also benefits from Tait’s proven customisation capabilities.
“From the users’ perspective, this radio is convenient to carry and easy to use. Minimal training is needed and, with 11 hours shift life in the light-yet-powerful lithium ion battery, the TP8100 is with them throughout their shift,” added Tony Davis.
The TP8135 and TP8140 have full trunked capabilities, for example, multiple call types such as individual and group calls, priority calls, PABX and interfleet calls. All this is backed up by Tait’s reputation as a leader in MPT 1327 technology, so this portable makes an ideal trunked system solution.
“It’s a compelling package. We’re already receiving pre-launch orders and our production facility is ready to match that anticipated demand,” added Tony.
Superior build quality
“Tait portables have always been known for their reliability. Now we’ve taken the quality of industrial design and manufacture to a whole new level," added Michael Chick, Managing Director of Tait Electronics Limited.
"The construction method for our TP9100 high-end public safety portable proved successful in delivering a tough radio that survives the inevitable knocks and drops. The two-shot moulded construction of the TP9100 and now the new TP8100 fuses the synthetic rubber armour and plastic leading to increased durability, improved shock absorption and better grip," said Michael.
A grooved alloy chassis with synthetic inlay allows a tightness of seal that delivers IP67-rated performance. IP67 is the independent testing criteria that states the radio must be totally dustproof and capable of being immersed in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. The stainless steel antenna connector and reinforced shoulder strengthens an otherwise vulnerable area.
“The TP8100 radio is superbly built and exceeds this and many other tests such as Military Standard (MIL-STD 810 F) drop tests. For example, the MIL-STD drop test is 26 times from 1.2m, but Tait drops 26 times from 1.8m onto concrete, then uses the same radio to undergo the immersion tests,” concluded Michael.
From the team who specialise in customisation
The new TP8100 is a full-feature handheld radio including: scanning, voting, Selcall, CTCSS, stun and revive and advanced hunt routines that invisibly seek out the best control channel for reliable service. Short data messaging is available providing efficient communications of status which ultimately can improve customer service.
With this new portable radio, Tait brings the same approach to customer service and to producing a solution that is the right fit for the task at hand. Tait has been an enduring partner to thousands of organisations which have installed radio communications solutions in over 140 countries. Partners and end users alike benefit from world-class training, exceptional technical support and proven customisation capabilities.
Safety-enhancing performance
Utilities and other service organisations with employees working across challenging terrain, in atrocious weather and under sometimes hazardous conditions take their teams’ safety seriously. The new TP8100 from Tait is a reliable portable radio that is dustproof, waterproof and shock resistant to military standards.
The TP8100 improves worker safety in several ways. Advanced power management, audible battery low indicators and high-performance Li-Ion batteries enable workers to continue their tasks with confidence. The top-mounted, recessed programmable emergency key can send alerts quickly when needed.
Lone Worker capability is available on all TP8100 models. A pre-programmed inactivity timer can be set up using the Windows-based programming software. If this timer counts down with no keypress, an audible alert will sound. If no key is pressed in this time, perhaps because the worker is incapacitated, then an emergency call is made to the Prime Emergency Number, or a call made to the SOS Call String.
“Employees in utilities are going to work their radios hard. They need the toughest, most reliable radios that they can count on, backed up with reliable communications networks to enhance their workers’ safety. Tait can provide both,” concluded Tony Davis.
