omega 1787, Let me be the first on this post.I would recomend the following scanners for IMPD. You will need a P25 Digital scanner. I would recomend the following Uniden scanners 396T,396XT, Uniden 996T, Uniden 996XT, Uniden Home Patrol HP-1. I also use a Uniden 796D for covering the nightside for metro Indianapolis/Marion County/Central Indiana from my bedroom at night. I carry a Uniden 396XT Handheld with me all the time while I am away from my Commnications Center. I also use a Uniden Home Patrol HP-1 in my vehicle with a mobile scanner antenna on the trunk.

Welcome to the hobby, Omega. We're glad you're here!

Part of deciding what scanner to get might be determined by how much work you want to put into programming. If you're fairly comfortable with tech, one of the Uniden scanners that Tim mentioned is probably a good choice. If you're more a "plug and play" kind of person, I highly recommend the Uniden Home Patrol.

If you'd like to see a Home Patrol in action, I'd be glad to meet up with you somewhere and let you play with mine for a bit, to get a feel for it.
