• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Okay disregard. The website ( since it's obviously foreign) made a typo. The MD-390 was the one advertised even though it does say MD-398. Same radio. Much apologies on that one. Looked different in the grainy photo to me at the time of post before

I think myself and the RR community definitely have some questions to be held about the MD-390. Mine are just like many others. Mine are as followed (1) price (2) enchanced encryption is it the same as the MD-380's style of 128 bit AES or is it upgraded to 256 bit (3) is the screen better then the MD-380 (4) processing speed overall faster then its predecessor (5) is the programming software still freeware (5) does the UHF model go to 480 MHz or only 470mhz. A couple different websites have conflicts on that one.

There seems to slight design change between the two. The one i'm assuming is the MD398 has a different button layout and different dimensions. While the MD390 appears to be a redesign of the MD380

I do see one online that has an emergency orange button on the top of the radio. Personally I like that design the best

Well, programmable emergency button is a requirement for me anyway. So thats gonna be my choice if end up ordering. Besides, i dont trust TYT enough to disregard the extreme likeness to the MD380. I wouldn't be surprised if they just changed the case. Other one had a board redesign at the very least.

The software will probably be the same, as it's basically the same radio with GPS, & a bigger battery. Remember, all Moto DMR radios take the same CPS. However, the FW might be different.

It's a chinese company. I doubt they will improve a whole lot. One thing we can hope for of they do offer updates via firmware it will apply to the 380 as well. Some companies cheap out like that to make you buy the next, bigger, better model. Personally I think it's bad business practice, but once again it's a Chinese company.

I can tell you this I am not jumping ship on any more Tyteras unless I see a whole bunch of you rave and roar about how much better the improvements are. Then still wait 3 months to see any issues if the company is going to fix them. Then I'll bend over an buy one. The screen I can tell by the pic looks improved and if there's an emergency orange button that too is a plus!!

Starting to show up on ebay. Claiming to be a dual band unit, skeptical.

The Tytera rep told me that the MD-390 is dual band VHF/UHF. The MD-398 is single band. Both are analog and DMR. But I do not have one in hand to confirm. She said they will be in Las Vegas at IWCE this month. Wonder if anyone is going?

I downloaded the cps and it only gives single band ranges to pick from.

Wouldn't be the first time a single band radio was advertised as a dual bander. The Baofeng WP970 comes to mind. Or maybe it was part of the requirements but never made it into the finished product?

I'll pass on that starting price point. Hopefully their upcoming mobile unit will be set a inexpensive price.

No Dual Band (In China that may mean ANALOG AND DIGITAL) which it does.

GPS is a big Questiona, Tytera says Yes, but they said the same thing on the 380, and it doesn't have GPS.

The one guy in Indiana is now selling at $175

Will be looking at Tytera on Wednesday at IWCE, get a "Demo"!
