Unless there is different hardware in the 150.
The obvious hardware difference is Bluetooth, so any code pertaining to that and the U/Aware app interface wouldn't be needed, plus it'll have code specific to the type of GPS module used, rather than the more basic GPS code currently used in the SDS series. Add to this a new battery configuration (new physical battery design, drop-in charging), which might need a slightly different code than what's currently used. I don't think the slightly-larger speaker needs anything specific that isn't already there.

But the rest appears to be all firmware additions & upgrades, so as I said, some of the new features not in the current SDS series could probably be integrated into the "legacy" SDS models, which I suspect won't be added until AFTER the 150 is introduced, so as to keep the focus on the 150.

I'm quite sure the added Bluetooth capability and internal GPS alone will be significant selling points. And I'm sure Bluetooth audio out won't specifically need the U/Aware app to work, necessarily, but the U/Aware app adds wireless capabilities (firmware/database upgrades, tablet/phone control) similar to that already used in smart lights & appliances. (Already being introduced in their radar detectors, per ads I've seen on YouTube.)

But the rest of the new functions and capabilities? Looks like those can be handled in firmware, and those of us with the older SDS models will probably be seeing firmware upgrades in the next couple months!

If indeed the waterfall feature is standard with the 150, I would think this will become a standard feature in the 100/200. Because I already paid for that upgrade, I won't see the difference, but anyone who has not bought the waterfall upgrade but have upgraded their firmware to the current version should check to see in the waterfall option is available, and doesn't ask for the key, if it's not activated yet. If you have the waterfall in new firmware, congratulations, you now have a feature from the 150!

I would hope it is a difference in S meter calibration and not actual signal. Might it also be that the SDS100 is measuring total signal including adjacent signal other than just the target frequency that is being decoded that isnt the GPS or BT?
The bit error indication suggests something else.

I am a "free" subscriber to National Communications Magazine and received an email from them earlier today (10-23-2025) alerting me that they had published a free article on the new Uniden SDS150 scanner. I read the article and found it to be quite informative regarding the features of the new scanner including the new U/AWARE app from Uniden. It also included some quotes from Kamie Eckert, Uniden America Corp.’s chief sales and marketing officer.

Here's a link to the free article: SCANNING: Uniden unveils SDS150 handheld scanner
You can also sign up for a free subscription (with limited access) or a paid subscription (with full access) at that link if you would like to support them in publishing articles of interest for radio hobbyists.

FYI I have no personal or business relationship with National Communication Magazine other than being a "free" subscriber.
Thanks for sharing this, very informative article. And, written by Chuck Gysi, who was a monthly columnist in the old Popular Communications magazine. Mr. Gysi believes there will be SDS-250 model, as many of us have as well:

"Let’s talk about this new scanner. First, the SDS150 is being touted as a replacement for the SDS100 handheld scanner. Just on that note alone, we’re going to guess that Uniden will release an SDS250 base/mobile scanner to replace the current SDS200 model, too. The SDS100 and SDS200 are essentially the same scanner — one in a portable handheld device and the other encased for mobile or base use.

Uniden emphasized in its news release that the SDS150 truly is a successor to the SDS100. Based on that information, Uniden probably has switched production of the SDS100 to the new SDS150 model by now."

Let’s guess the price range
1. Why, yes, of course. Let's engage in a string of messages containing ill-informed speculation complete with complaints about the price being too high and reminiscing about how affordable scanners were "back in my day".

2. Alternatively, we could wait patiently for Uniden to announce an MSRP and dealers to announce their retail prices.

I vote for #2.

Agreed, #2. It stands to reason that it will be priced in line with the existing SDS 100/200 models.

Frankly we could have waited for #2 for about 8.5 pages of this thread, but you know speculation is good too I guess.

We know the price will be high. At least as much as the SDS100. So no need to speculate hoping it won't be. What I am most interested in, is when it will be released. But speculating when, will not get it to us sooner. I will wait a short time until we know how it performs. I am really hoping the improperly designed front end of the SDS100 is corrected, and the SDR module is in the IF stages so it does not need those after release filters of the SDS100 which was a patch for an improper design.

I've already made my comments many, many months ago about people's complaints about how expensive scanners are, when actually the SDS units deliver much more bang for the buck than scanners of old, and scanner enthusiasts back then were actually more eager to shell out the money..... $1300 in Y2K dollars for a scanner with only P25 and maybe 250 channels of memory versus $800 in today's dollars for multiple digital and analogue modes, multiple trunking systems, nearly unlimited memory capacy, and easily updated firmware & master database, plus extensive favourites lists!

Am I missing something?!?

And for what it's worth, I already have my guess what the 150 will go for, but I ain't saying!

Playing the cat is out of the bag again. This means the field testers have been at it again.
I will also be waiting to see if we get a prerelease deal like last time.
But yes I want one and will order one waiting to see the price.

I would hesitate before buying anything from zipscanners. Better service elsewhere
You got that right!
