Sorry if this has been discussed, but a search didn't turn up anything.

A couple weeks ago I finally programmed the Waukesha County TRS into my 996T, with almost all of the law enforcement and fire TGs. I ran ARC996 overnight to search for anything else and to tabulate the activity. I ran the test again this afternoon for about 3 hours.

Interestingly, I found that of the four known WCC (Waukesha Combined Communications) dispatch TGs, two were completely inactive, and an undocumented one (33043) was VERY busy. In parentheses are the number of hits on each TG in 3 hours today:

TG
1616 = Area 1 Dispatch (136)
19344 = Area 4 Dispatch (381)
21968 = Area 3 Dispatch (0)
33040 = Area 2 Dispatch (0)

and the new (?) one:
33043 = combined areas 2-3 ? (194)

I'm guessing that 33043 is a combination of areas 2 and 3 -- not sure. It's plenty busy, though -- give it a listen. I don't see it documented anywhere on the web. Originally, with scanning the known TGs, I missed it. Interesting, or old news?

radio50, this new talk group of 33043 is a good find. My 996 has so many systems to scan that it is easy to miss a new talk group in a TRS like Waukesha County.

I haven't seen it come up yet;now that I know it is being used, I will be watching for it.

New Waukesha Talkgroup

I thought some uniden scanners might round a talkgroup id number up or down a couple of #'s I listen to Waukesha all the time and I have not seen that talk group yet.

I dunno. They seem to be pretty busy here this morning. Overnight (12 hours) 33043 had 823 hits. TG 1616 had 845 hits, and TG 19344 had 1051 hits. There were no hits on 21968 or 33040.

This is not a new one,been around for well over a year.
If you never seen this before you need to go to trunking menu and change the status bit to the other option.
This is Area 2 & 3 patched together.
I will never understand why departments don't complain it wasn't suppose to be like this.

mkescan, thanks! This must be the reason some of us have seen 33043 and some have not (maybe it shows up as 33040 on their radios, if they have "status bit" set to "ignore" rather than "yes". Mine is "yes"). This is described at the top of page 72 of the 996 manual.

I got lucky when I used Butel ARC996PRO to program the system -- somehow "Status bit" was checked "on" there -- but I don't remember setting it. Oh well, we all need a little luck now and then.

So, it looks like the true TG number is 33043, and may be the only strange one in the system (not a multiple of 16). Tnx for confirming it is a combination of areas 2 & 3.

Have you tried disabling the status bit to see what comes up? This looks like a patched talk group of Area 3 to Area 2. With it disabled, you may see all the 33043 traffic on the Area 2 group. Why they want to patch those two areas together could be for any number of reasons.

Remember that if the status bit is enabled, you'll end up with talk group numbers per this table (available on the Wiki, too):
TTID + # Usage
ID+0 Normal Talkgroup
ID+1 All Talkgroup
ID+2 Emergency
ID+3 talkgroup patch to another
ID+4 Emergency Patch
ID+5 Emergency multi-group
ID+6 Not assigned
ID+7 Multi-select (initiated by dispatcher)
ID+8 DES Encryption talkgroup
ID+9 DES All Talkgroup
ID+10 DES Emergency
ID+11 DES Talkgroup patch
ID+12 DES Emergency Patch
ID+13 DES Emergency multi-group
ID+14 Not assigned
ID+15 Multi-select DES TG

EDIT: Looks like mkescan/radio50 and I were typing the same brainstorm at the same time! Good teamwork!

Other groups
Waukessha Co TRS group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WCTRS
WI Scanning Group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/scan-wis

or it might of been the old WIA2 group when it was on yahoo,it moved to google now

Oh yeah..Milwaukee County Sheriff has a Fleetwide or All talkgroup which is 23120 or 23121 depending on status bit,you can hear ATL's and Severe Weather Warnings on this

My status bit was set to ignore. So I was was always getting 33040. I set the status bit to yes, and now I get 33043. I forgot the scanner rounds all received ids down to the next interval of 16. The default setting is ignore. So that is what I got when I set the system up.

Thanks for all the helpful info. I need to program 23121 into Milwaukee County. I saw TG 34583 show up on that system a few hours ago -- another strange one and unknown to me.

34583 is Wauwatosa Fire Station Alerting
Greenfield has something like that to on the Greenfield TRS 33264/33271 = Station Page,but now I think it might only be on 33264
