We all saw how well the State Police's move from Wilton to Albany went...I can only imagine how well this will go...

At this point, the State can't win. Either we will complain about the way they are saving money, or we will complain about the losses of services when the money runs out.

Local Dispatch vs. Central Dispatch

You do have a point Dave, but egrs40 does have a good point as well. When all the Troop G dispatch duties went from the Zone Control Points (Wilton/Princetown) to Headquarters (COMSEC) the level of service to both the public and the Troopers on the road went downhill. Nothing against anyone working the desk down there, but the former Zone 2 dispatchers know Saratoga, Washington and Warren Counties like the back of their hands and most of them live in that area and have a close relationship with the Troopers on the road. I am sure it was no different in Zone 3.

If someone calls DEC for someone lost 2 miles south of Johns Brook Loj in Keene or in the Knapp Estate in Fort Ann, the current dispatchers in Ray Brook are going to know right where the call is, where someone who has never dealt with DEC Zone 5, is going to have to learn all those places. I will tell you though, I am sure the county dispatch centers will see an increase of activity or requests for assistance from the Rangers and ECO's in the field. When Ray Brook is short staffed that is what they do now.

I agree with the statement about county dispatch. I would imagine that the ECO's and Rangers would utilize the county communications centers and refrain from Central Dispatch.

On a side note as I am typing this I am listening to Ranger unit 8N566 call Central Dispatch now three times, both on Prospect and Gore with no answer although I can hear him 5/5 in Rensselaer County on my HT.

Merger

I also would not be surprised to see the new Governor merge the ECO's, Rangers and State Park Police into one agency , Perhaps the Department of Natural Resources, like some other states. Would manage them directly from Albany via "Central Dispatch". I know the State Park Police are also going through a lot of changes as we speak. Have gone from Regional to Districts. An example is the Saratoga Region, TAconic Region and Palisades Region have been merged into the Hudson Valley "District".

For the observant you will notice the State Park Police are starting to use a lot of the DEC communications infrastructure . . .

Only time will tell
