Today while driving in the Verona area, I received a very strong signal on 858.0625, PL 203.5 Hz, that sounded to be a simulcast of a Newark Police channel. Does anyone know if they are doing some kind of testing on 800?

What Newark Police District (s) N,S,C,E or W is this 800 MHz channel covering?

I believe it was mentioned in another thread a while back that all PD is expected to be encrypted once they migrate to the new system.

I have added all three 800 MHz frequencies under WRCH730 License to the RR database with this note in the frequency subcategory under Newark Police.
"The 800 MHz frequencies listed are part of a slow growth authorization. Currently licensed for NFM though some are using P25.
Consider these frequencies under test with mix mode emissions both in the clear and encrypted as well as NACs,PL/DPLs changing.
These 800 MHz will be absorbed into the future Newark P25 Type II trunk system which is expected to become fully active over next two years or less."

So if there are any changes especially if other Newark agencies come onboard to the 800 Freqs. (Fire Dept, Water etc). Roll out of the trunked System with additional Frequencies or talk groups. Please make a note here and send in a submission.

Thank you,

AES-256 secured
And FWIW, Newark’s new trunked system is scheduled for final roll out in August 2021, literally two years from now, with zero hiccups and pending funding (which the City constantly struggles with). No need to cry about encryption yet and don’t sell your UHF equipment anytime soon.

Well the DB shows them as NAC 203 - P25E and listening to it today I have not seen anything with a PL up here and I am definitely seeing the NAC and garbled audio.

My bad - expanded thread showed me the rest of this with the big E.
