Newport News is closing down a high rise fire in the downtown area. They are working the incident on TAC 3 (TGID 3024). The fire is out, but apparently there is concern for resident safety as it sounds like no one is going to be allowed to stay there tonight.

Not sure which building, but it seems to be one of the eight or nine story towers just south of the shipyard on the waterfront.

For a while NNFD was stretched pretty thin. With numerous units tied up downtown, there was a house fire. Not a major fire, but there was a hot wire in the crawl space and they couldn't get to it.

Well the fire is out, as I reported earlier, and the residents are being kept out until the building has been inspected. FD let residents back in to turn off cooking food and get meds and some clothes.

NN Fire update

Well I was commenting on the evacuation of the residents from yesterday's fire. The paper this morning says the building was evacuated, not from fire, smoke or water damage, but because the fire alarm in the building does not work. Fifteen floors, 135 apartments and none of the residents heard an alarm, including the tenant in the apartment where the fire started.

This was page one on the Daily Press. As I have a low opnion of the press, I'd almost be willing to bet this is the last we'll see of this in the news.
