I am moving from Thurston County (Conventional) where my Old analog Pro 107 works just fine, to Auburn WA (which worked fine when I left in 2016). Will my 107 work at all under KCERS? For the new PSERN, which hand held, reasonably easy to program (I'm 80 ) radio is recommended?

The TRX 1 is a good scanner that will look/act very much like the Pro-107. The only catch is that they're very hard to find right now. E-Bay has them for $600+ which is pretty steep. Whistler sells refurbished units on their website but they're not available at the moment. The TRX-1 scanner includes the ability to decode just about every digital system there is at the moment. The Uniden scanners offer the ability but you need to pay extra to unlock certain features.

Pretty much all of the new scanners require programming via a computer. If you can handle that then you'll be fine.

OK. My question is Will PSERN be encrypted? If so, would I be throwing 600 bucks out the window in the very near future?

Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: Yes - but when that exactly happens - is still TBD.

Keep in mind if you want to listen to Thurston County Police / Fire / EMS they will be going to digital in the next year or so...
