Niagara Region Works departments now on Niagara 700MHz system

Tried listening to Niagara Region snow plows during this weekends snow, and not a peep. I had heard they were thinking of transitioning off of their VHF system and using the Niagara Region 700 MHz P25 system. Looks like they've done it. Seeing new talk groups in the 53xx range and new unit numbers 104xxx on the 700 P25 system.

AND they've gone encrypted too! Seems like overkill, and a waste of money for the licenses to encrypt those groups.

No extra cost to encrypt these days.

I would be surprised if they were encrypted. They may be on a DMR system.

They have to be encrypted because you never know who is planning to hijack a snowplow [crying emoji]

Same thought too. I confirmed with a contact in the Region they have indeed moved and are encrypted.
