Yea, they have changed things since I was able to listen in on there frequencies, there was not to much that got buy me when I was able to listen to the Niagara Regionals it was very interesting to know what was going on in your neighbor hood, I try and listen to the OPP but most of the time they are pulling over cars for checks and other mundane things so I really don't listen to them very much.

Hey, does anyone have the capabilities (and or the desire) to record a few hours of those transmissions?
I have worked in Niagara-on-the Lake (as a musician) and spent a lot of time wondering what the (admittedly quiet) PD transmissions would sound like.

I would be happy to reimburse you for your time.

Thanks
Dic

Well first we need to verify that the NRPS have or are from time to time shutting down their encryption, once we have someone verify this then it would be simple to record the transmissions, I will be glade to do this for you when I get my scanner back from getting fixed at the end of April, I have ARC396PRO software that I can let log and record for several hours if I wish.

I'm guessing he's hearing Fleetnet and not NRPS.

141.7350Mhz is the Fort Erie repeater for NRPS. The database also shows it as a channel on the Ballinafad site.

There isn't a corresponding Fleetnet frequency for 141.9150Mhz though. If it's the TAC channel he's hearing, then it could be the Primrose tower on 142.080Mhz.

re: NRPS ENC.

I checked some NRPS channels this morning on my GRE PSR500 and
all were encrypted.
The way I could tell them apart was because of the P25 NAC code search feature in this radio.
All of the NRPS channels had an NAC code of 293.
The channels monitored were:
141.915
142.275
142.410
142.005

The fleetnet channels that you were probably hearing on the same freqs have
NAC codes such as 2D3, 2D4 etc.depending on which Fleetnet site you are monitoring on these channels.
The NAC feature allows you to just monitor P25 traffic for any given site even if you can't pick up the control channel well enough to trunktrack from the site.

Niagara Falls should be open as well seeing as 141.915, and 141.735 are linked to 142.545 Niagara Falls. So if one is opened the others should be too. To check if you do have the NRPS you have to see if there is traffic on all 3 at the same time.

So now we've got one person who has monitored NRPS and can positively state that the channels are still encrypted as he's able to see the NAC and one person who says that the 3 channels are all wide open.

I'd put my money on the guy who can decode the NAC's and positively identify them.

I'm going to Niagara On The Lake on Friday - I'll borrow a friend's Astro Spectra and have all the NRPS frequencies programmed both with and without a NAC and I'll let ya'll know next week what I find.

I'm going to put my money on the fact that they're 100% encrypted. I really can't imagine their telecom guys "forgetting" to program encryption on a couple of channels - surely they would have noticed by now - and so would we.

Thanks that should take care of this, I agree with you I can't imagine they would drop the encryption on there frequencies, they spent enough of the tax payers money going to there own system and opting out of Bell Fleetnet System.

You can count me among the skeptics as well. You'd have had confirmation by now if any or all of the NRPS channels were in the clear.

Okay, well someone lost.

NRPS is 100% encrypted, as we had thought.

I "listened" to every one of their frequencies, and all the ones that had activity was encrypted. I heard their main channels of 142.4100, 142.5450, 141.7350, 142.5750 and 142.2300 - they were all encrypted.

So now you know... the rest... of the story.

Interestingly enough however...

The Flower Cops don't seem to be encrypted. Unless someone else is using their old 142.2600 frequency... I didn't really listen that much.

 It's been so long I took the frequency out of my list when they went onto the Niagara Regional Police System, I think 142.860 was the frequency.
Steve

I can tell you they did not go back to analog because I'm listening to 142.860 now and it's digital sound on this frequency, I don't have a digital scanner right now so I am listening to them on my pro-2045 and it's digital but I can't tell if it's encrypted.
